I’m attracted to the boss of the small plastics company I work for. He’s in his mid 30s and not married. I’m 25, moderately attractive and don’t have much experience. I’m not great at reading signs so I could use some help. I really like him but not sure what his feelings are for me. I don’t want to come on too strong in case he doesn’t feel the same. Whenever I go up to him to ask a question he gets flustered and uncomfortable, but is very friendly with other females in the office. He likes to joke around with them during lunch and coffee breaks, but never talks to me and even avoids looking at me during those times. Sometimes I come away feeling very ignored and think he doesn’t like me at all. I’ve noticed that when he needs to come over to my desk to talk to me about something, he always takes his glasses off when we talk, but never does that with the others. I’m not sure what that means. If I smile at him he gives me a sort of half smile back, not a really friendly one.

Thanks everyone for your prompt responses. You've given me lots to think about. I'm the closest in age to my boss and I think we have similar outlooks. As far as looks go, I'm about average but always dress well and try to make the most of what I've got. I've noticed that when I stand near him he can't look me in the eye. He'll glance at me then look at the floor. When I've tried to start a conversation with him, he nods and hardly talks. At a farewell party for a staff member last month, a friend told me she saw him staring at me a lot from the other side of the room. I didn't notice this.

Oh man, that is very subtle. I really couldn't tell by those signs. Keep watching and post if you see more.
I have a couple questions: Does he try to make excuses to talk to you, or is it strictly business when he comes to your desk?
Does he "accidentally" touch you?
Is he flirtatious with the other women? Is he unavailable but you don't know it bc he is private?

Man - you all so dumb. It is clear that he is making a distinction between the "other" females in the office and you.
The question is - how old are the other females compared to him - i.e. where are they in their lives compared to you.
Also - how do they stack up in the looks dept compared to you?
If you are closer to him in life (i.e. status, personality, outlook in life, AGE, etc) then you are in.
If you stack up favorably against the other females in the looks dept also - then ..... slam dunk. You may as well ask him to have lunch with you - under watever pretense you like. Cuz he is into you big time.
If you do not compare to where u are in life and da looks dept to the other females - then move on girl .. so sorry.

Stay away from your boss! If you should misread his intentions, you could lose your job by trying to make a play for him, and this wouldn't help your professional life either.
Try to find another guy elsewhere, maybe through friends or relatives, activities, etc.

I think he has noticed that you like him and it makes him kind of like uncomfortable a little bit.
Try to wear some high heels and shorter skirts to work.

Unless he tells you outright that he likes you... NEVER EVER assume anything... only girls understand the art of giving signals... for guys... they have no clue... they can't read signals and can't send them as well...
