"exterminating" pit bulls is not on the agenda (even though some extremists would welcome it), but Breed Specific Legislation is a huge issue around the country right now. many BSL laws do not condemn only pit bulls (which are defined as being either american pit bull terriers, american staffordshire terriers, or staffordshire bull terriers), but any breed that even vaguely resembles a pit bull. most legislators can't identify dog breeds worth **** so any breed or mix with a big head is instantly a "pit mix".

what alot of these places are trying to do is limit the breeding of "dangerous" breeds. they want to require special breeding permits and charge sky-high licensing costs for un-fixed animals. the people who breed vicious dogs are not going to bother with any laws to regulate them, the only people who will really be affected by BSL laws are the responsible breeders who actually care about the breeds they work with.

anyway, if you want info on current BSL issues around the country go to the main page of the AKC at www.akc.org . you'll see it in a bulletin box on the right side of the screen.

Yes I heard that as well. I would suppose that is because these dogs can be very dangerous to have around children because they can turn on people and hurt or kill children. I know that they can be good dog's and there could be many stories of good pit bulls. The pit bull has a very bad rap. I don't think that the government will be able to exterminate the pit bull. However I do believe that once a pit bull or any other dangerous dog has attacked they will contunue to be put to sleep once they have attacked.I just wish that people would train there dogs to be family members and not attack dogs.

There is a lot of breed specific legislation in various places around the country. The legislation is based off of people who forget that it is the owners, not the dogs, which create bad dogs. Unfortunately, Pits get a bad rap. Raised properly and bred right, they are fantastic dogs.

If you REALLY want to keep up with anti-dog legislation (which is being fought all over the country, every day) join the yahoo group pet-law, or go to pet-law.com, or naiaonline.org. AKC only has alerts occasionally, and sometimes even then after the fact.

They probably want to do away with the wonderful way many people train their dogs to fight and attack. That probably won't happen. Because somebody will always want to breed those dogs, make money- they don't think anything except winning and making money. I think "those people" should be put to sleep. What you do think about that?

Where? In the U.S. That would violate the Constitution, as unlawful seizure of property.
