A Irish Wolfhound is the taller one out of the two. Even though the Irish Wolfhound is a little thinner.

The Wolfhound is bigger. And if I might comment much nicer than a great Dane. I have both and the Dane is to protective around others as in dogs and people. My little tiny one "ha ha" is happy at the vets and the cats and other dogs. He is even nice to the neighbor hood kids that lose their balls in he back yard. I love them both and they get along swell. And they both are allowed in the house. With animals of their size the food bill is rather large. But I would not trade either of them for a small giraffe

Technicall Great Dane males should be atleast 30 inches at the whithers, but ideally 32 inches or more. Females should be atleast 28 inches, but 30 inches or more is preferable.
Irish wolfhounds are also suppose to be atleast 30 inches, but ideally 32-34 inches. The minimum height of dogs should be 32 inches and the minimum height of bitches 30 inches.
Arguably, there is not necessarily a significant size difference. But if I were to call it, i'd say Wolfhounds.

I'd have a great dane over them anytime.

Generally, the Irish Wolfhound is considered to be the largest breed of dog. Most of the Wolfies I've met have been larger than most of the Danes I've met.

On average, the male of an irish wolfhound is tallest. The Dane will usually have more weight and be "bigger" overall.

I think a great dane would be; they look like minature horses to me. You know they probably eat like a horse anyway. How can anyone afford to feed one???
Everytime I see a great dane, I think about the neighbor's that used to live by my parents several years ago. They had a black great dane and a four year old child. Her father had a saddle custom made and that little girl would RIDE that dog all over the place like she was riding a pony. It was so funny watching that.
