I do indeed censor myslef as well, because I conclude that I ought not to take pleasure in anything that God has indicated He hates. That is my rule. I do the same with music too. But I will freely enjoy anything that is acceptable to God according to scipture. I am not against TV, need I say it? But I am against the programming or subject content.

The Christians at Bob Jones University. One of the rules of the dorms there are NO TV because it's not Christian enough. The students there are not allowed to go to movie theaters and if they watch a movie it has to be chaperoned or approved and of a "G" rating...this is a university for 18+ year old people!
Also, I think Madona is anti-tv when it comes to her children I might have heard this somewhere on tv.

I guess I have. I can't remember the last time I actually watched something. I think it was a home show - Flip This House - or something like that. Man! That was at least a month or so ago. I don't like what's being shown on TV these days for the most part. Too much violence, cursing, lust, greed, sex, adultery, homosexuality, disrespect of each other, disrespect of parents, etc. The list goes on and on. Most of what is shown today goes directly against how I live and what I believe. Why would I be interested in watching that trash? It's no different than "you are what you eat." Trash in = trash out.

awe man, if you have been without tv for ten years you have missed out on a lot of good stuff
but then again, i lived without a tv in my room until i was 18 or 19.
when i was in high school our family didnt have tv so I read more books.
when i lost my job and became homeless i didnt have any tv for 2 years. maybe a little longer.
but i was able to watch vhs and rent videos and dvds.
i was also able to get the internet through wifi and park 8 blocks away. until they decided to shut me out.
i dont want to give up TV at all, because there are still good selections to veiw. the history channel and scifi channels are my favorites.

I haven't given up TV yet. But I have started picking more constructive and wholesome programming. Animal Planet, Food Channel and picking shows that aren't rich in sexual situations and swearing and violence. That's hard to find I know, but I try. Because I'm either in front of the TV or at this monitor and this monitor is a lot more fun really. :-)

I am Christian, but if Christians sit back, become complacent and do nothing about the filth that is on their television they do not have the right to complain. I have to monitor what comes on mine as well. go to http://www.afa.com
In the 1950's Christians were given first dibs on the television industry. They turned it down, claiming it was the work of the devil, rather than a evangelizing tool. They did not understand how powerful a tool it could be.

The Lord revealed it to me through different situations what garbage I'm filling up in and just took it out of my desires. Then a few months later did that to my husband. Now that was a miracle bc my husband watched TV every waking hour he could. Now on occassion he might rent a movie or something but spends now way more time reading & meditating on Gods Word. Praise the Lord!

I haven't given up TV entirely because there are plenty of acceptable television shows and stations out there, you just have to find them.
The general rule-of-thumb in my house is, don't watch something you wouldn't watch with Jesus, because Jesus is always watching you!
Input = Output

I have, I am Christian, but know of many non-believers who have also given up TV. TV with the exception of things like the Discovery channel, etc is an insult to our intelligence. Shows like the simpsons, and all the dumb sitcoms at night do nothing but insult us.

Pick me! Pick me!
My mom, when all of us kids were really little, read a book called "The Plug-In Drug"
REALLY good book on the topic.
We have never had a TV in our home.
We do watch videos, but no TV.
