Like salted ham.

Depends on the meat, temperature, and prerefridgeration process. Salted ham generally is good for about 1 month in a moderate temperature fridge, but may longer if placed in a colder fridge or freezer. Now, when I say "good", I mean perfectly edible, but may not taste quite as divine after that period.

The idea with salted meat is that it's being preserved by salt and shouldn't need a fridge. Neat experiment though...

Not very long after the package has been broken/opened. Don't confuse the term 'Salted meat' as it was used centuries ago to perserve meat for long sea voyages.

Here in Bontoc, Mtn. Province, we do not put our salted meat in the fridge. My father uses crushed patani leaves to preserve it ( to prevent the meat from worms to appear), then dry in the sun then cover with newspaper before storing in a cool dry place.

most ham is salt it keeps longer than the other meat and you can always smell and taste it i,m using the rest of mine today on ham and beans and pea soup

If it kept in a wet towel (provided for ham) that has a touch of vingear in the water when washed then it can be kepted in the fridgerator for about 1-2 weeks.
