I have a cat and my husband & I love her very much. I can see that she loves us very much as well. We do lots of things together...for example, sleeping.
She comes up to me and using my arm as her pillow while I pet her. Then she bits my chin.
Well...she doesn't bite me that hard...but it still hurts and shocks me especially when she does that to me while I'm asleep. She also sniffs my left eye...only my left eye and pats my left eye with her paw, claws out while I'm asleep. It doesn't bother me that much if I'm awake...but when she wakes me up like this, I get little annoyed.
Now I know she does patting because kittens do that to get milk out from mother's breasts...I think? I'm not sure anymore.
So why does she bites my chin, pats my left eye and sniffs it?
Oh and thanks in advance!

In forty years of owning cats I've discovered that for most (but not all) my cats anything that had to do with my face meant super intimacy. I've had cats who wanted to knead my face or my hair when they felt especially intimate. They will do it especially if you reinforce it - for example, if you wake up and pet her after she does these things.
And then there is Sybil, who unbends enough to cuddle my foot if she is feeling especially loving. No touching allowed.

The biting is really a variant of a kitty kiss... sometimes their pleasure when being rubbed becomes so intense that they give ya a little nick... but it shouldn't hurt. When she does that to you and you find it annoying, just hold her snout (nose and jaw ina pinch move very briefly, completely shutting her mouth. It will signal to her not to bite. As for pawing your left eye to wae you up - I really don't know how you can stop that becuase my cat does it to me and pinching his paw, saying "No" etc. have not worked. Guess he just want his food too much to be discouraged by anything.

Cats want to play....they need a certain amount of playtime or they can get aggressive. My Cat does the same thing...I recently bought her a bunch of new toys...my kids and I play with her a lot. It's really settled the biting down.
Your eyes are like two play marbles for your kitty...maybe that's another clue that your Cat needs to play. Good Luck!

my cat used to this all the time. he would freaks me out, he bites my nose tho. i think they just get so anxious they want to hold you real tight. still would get me a Lil mad. so i would give him a Lil hey! and tap on his thigh and he'd stop & go to sleep. he doesn't do it very much any more but just every once in while gets a lil frisky i can tell when he's going to do it now and i tell him "Churby u better behave" in a real serious sort of tone. But they just love you so muchand want to give some tough love they can't help them self.

my cat pats both my eyes trying to wake me up. I think it is so funny. The biting? I don't know. Maybe that's to wake you up also.

She is trying to get your attention for a reasonn Maybe she wants to snuggle or needs a drink. She could be hungry. My cat does the samething when he wants something.

I would also say it is basically an expression of her affection. I had simular situations and most cats stop when you simply express when they hurt you. A loud "outch" should do the job.

This is her way of telling you she loves you. I have a cat that will literally kiss me on the lips. He comes up to me puts his lips on mine and then he will lick them. I know it sounds gross, but it is very sweet.

sort of love and affection...if you see kittens play or a mother cat playing with her kittens you might notice some similar gestures and reactions...
