From what I know most views of the bibles stance on homosexuality comes from Leviticus. These are my questions:
1. Since the bible has been translated to English "If a man lies with a man as he does with a woman, both of them has done what is detestable. They must be put to death" could mean a number of things. Lie could mean a liar or even something different that we know nothing of in the arameic language. Could a misinterpretation be possible? At face value my ex husband could be put to death because he lied to both men and women.
2. If we believe the christian view that this is a homosexuality statement, should we also agree that the bible condones "putting to death"?
3. If the above is true.........should we also believe Leviticus when it says that shaving is wrong? Do christians shave?
4. And I am being serious here....how did Moses get two of every animal on the ark from all over the world in that short of a time and that small of a boat and why did God make the seas rise?

1.The Bible makes it clear in the old and new testament that homosexual activity is a sin. Sex is a spiritual act as well as a physical one.

2. Yes, it is the government's job to restrain evil. If our government would have done a better job all along there wouldn't be so many people given over to the sin of homosexuality.

3. No, shaving is only an external, God gave the Jews laws about keeping themselves separate physically to represent what was to happen spiritually. When Christ came He completed the picture. So laws like not mixing wool with linen etc. were not valid any longer.

4. Moses may have edited the text about it, but NOAH built the ark. Much bigger than you are thinking. The animals had a hundred years to get there. Even if they were around the world from there, they could have made it. Their aren't as many Kinds of animals as you maybe think. Some of our species are actually subspecies (they LOST info, not gained it). The avg size is the size of a sheep. You really ought to look up the old answers on this, I can't remember the details but a feasibility study has been done, and they found it quite plausible size wise. IT was three stories and each was 1 1/2 footbal fields long. And those humongous animals were babies once. Even the biggest dinosaurs came out of an egg the size of a football. You would want one a year before they started to reproduce, so they would still be small. There was plenty of room for a years worth of food (if God didn't have most of them hibernate), and enough room and time that they could have taken care of wastes and exercising the animals as well.

If they didn't they wouldn't cover the earth, and God couldn't have done what He said He was going to do, wipe every living creature (besides those in the ark) off the face of the earth.

The world will be destroyed again. This time Jesus is the only way to avoid destruction. if you don't know Him, get to know Him, call on Him, before it is too late for you. Or you will be left behind to destruction like those in the days of Noah.
****edit
Of course you would take the animals that hadn't started reproducing yet! Otherwise, they wouldn't have as many years on the other side of the flood to work on getting the population back up.

I'll adress each of your questions individually::

1) The fact that this translated phrase says "lies with" conveys that it means "has sexual relations with". If the phrase had meant "to purposely misinform", then it would have been translated at "lies to" rather than "lies with".

2) This cannot be used to prove that the Bible condones the killing of people, because in this context "putting to death" is used to describe the punishment for a crime. The Bible points out many crimes that are punishable by death. But that does not make killing acceptable without a criminal act being committed first.

3) Where in Leviticus does it say shaving is wrong? I'm not saying it doesn't, I just haven't read it.

4) Moses didn't get the animals on the ark. Noah was the one with the ark.

Sorry, but I'm afraid you're playing word games here, and trying to find some sort of loophole in the Bible to justify homosexuality.

But homosexuality is condemned not only in the Old Testament, but also in the New. Very specifically too.

Such is not the case with shaving, which is to my knowledge not mentioned in the New Testament.

But the New Testament does uphold, reaffirm, and back up the Old's teachings against homosexuality.

That's the difference between what the Bible said about homosexuality and what it said about shaving.

1. Go into the hebrew meanings and actually find out what you're talking about.

2. Well, the bible definitely said pretty plainly that they were to be killed. As for nowadays.... As far as I know, the bible does not require that they be killed nowadays.

3. I shave. There are some really good verses in.... romans? that deal with all the traditions that were previously enacted.

4. God sent the animals. The ark was not "small" by any stretch of the imagination. It was a huge rectangular box.
God made the seas rise to wipe out all of humanity except for Noah and his family.

1. It is doubtful that "lie with" means dishonesty as the Bible was not written in English which is where that similarity comes in. But there are many other reasons why this verse is mistranslated today. For instance, back then men were using male prostitutes - that is a hurtful, exploitative relationship that has nothing to do with healthy gay relationships, anymore than straight prostitution reflects on the morality of straight marriages. This verse simply doesn't apply to relationships based on love, friendship, respect, and monogamy, and many gay relationships are based on these things.

2. That does seem to be the logical conclusion...so don't start on that path :-)

3. Ditto.

4. Noah's ark is a beautiful story that grew out of some ancient event. Instead of using your energy to try and wrap your brain around something obviously not literally true, use your energy to figure out "Why did the Biblical writers think this story was important? What principles and truths were they trying to pass down to future generations?" and live by them.

1. No it meant to lie around in bed. Surely you must realize that Hebrew probably did not have words that sounded alike that meant to recline and tell untruths.
2. Jesus said let him who is without sin cast the first stone when the adulterers were found out. All sins are the same in God's eyes and I think that Christians harp on this as most of them are straight and it just makes them feel better to look down on someone because it mentions other sins much more than homosexuality so I don't think He worries about it near as much as some of my Christian brothers and sisters seem to. As for me I have a lot of trouble keeping me in line and have no time to judge others. Oops guess I do as I just did sort of.
3. In the new testament when the Jewish converts were mad that the gentiles weren't circumcised they were told that they were in the heart.
4. Noah not Moses and he didn't. God caused it.

1.it may be a misinterpretation , but chances are that it is not .
2.no we should not put to death such a person as the sole purpose that jesus was crucified was to save people from such sins . this could be attained through heartful confession and repentance.
3.jesus died on the cross to free us from such laws , so we can shave. yes, Christians do shave.
4.moses was not the one who who did this but Noah was the one.I think he did this by working day and night.God made the sea rise so as to kill even the mountain animals.

We as Christians live under grace through the blood of Jesus. The Old Testament is the law and we live under grace.

Actually, if you will look in the New Testament since we are under grace you will find in many, many places that sexual immorality is in more places than Leviticus.

The reason it's mentioned over and over is simple; It was and still is very important and the fabric of who we are.

Sexual sin is the only sin where we are sinning inside our bodies and since we are the temple of the Holy Spirit...we are sinning in the temple.

Romans 1:26 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

1 Cor. 6: 9 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.

Avoiding Sexual Sin
1 Cor 6:12 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. 13 You say, “Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.” (This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.

Here are additional Scriptures that are in the New Testament on sexual sins...

Galatians 5:19
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,

Ephesians 5:3
Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.

Colossians 3:5
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

1 Thessalonians 4:3
God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.

2 Peter 2:18
They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.

Question 2 - Again we live under grace.

Question 3 - See answer 2

Question 4 - Moot question. Moses had nothing to do with the Ark and the animals.

It is important for us to study the Old Testament, the principals apply to our lives as much today as they did when they were written.

As Christians, we are followers of Jesus Christ and His teachings. The two greatest commandments ... 1) Love God with all of our mind, soul and strength and 2) Love one another as Jesus loves us. If we follow these two commandments, everything will fall into place.

Happy New Year!!!

Hello =)

Well, considering that Moses made his brother drink Molten Gold, which we would assume killed him instantly, I think that the Jews of the Mosaic era had no particular problem "putting people to death" in the name of God.

Remember, though, that even though "lying with another man" was mentioned as an offense punishable by death, it wasn't greatly expounded upon....

There were things that were much more greatly expounded upon, as offenses, that were equally punishable by death.....one particular example always comes to mind....the eating of "rock badger".....evidently, eating rock badger is about the worst sin you could have committed, according to Moses.

Martin Luther said "I neither want to see, nor hear anything about Moses", and tossed the whole first five chapters of the old testament in the trashcan, when he constructed "his" Bible.....as he deemed them worthless....

Namaste, and Happy New Year,

--Tom

The Bible does not call particular attention to homosexuals as a group to be ostracized or hated by Christians. Moreover, it does not teach that God will punish homosexuals or any of his creatures, by burning them in a fiery hell forever.

However, the Scriptures do set forth the moral standards of our Creator, which oftentimes run counter to modern-day mores. Homosexual acts, heterosexual sex between unmarried persons, and bestiality are all condemned in the Bible. (Exodus 22:19; Ephesians 5:3-5) God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of such sexual practices.

Regarding acts of homosexuality, God’s Word pointedly says: “This is a hateful thing.” (Leviticus 18:22, The New Jerusalem Bible) God’s Law to Israel stipulated: “When a man lies down with a male the same as one lies down with a woman, both of them have done a detestable thing. They should be put to death without fail.” (Leviticus 20:13) The same punishment was prescribed for those committing bestiality, incest, and adultery.

The apostle Paul was inspired to describe homosexual acts as expressions of “disgraceful sexual appetites” and as “contrary to nature.” He writes: “That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error. And just as they did not approve of holding God in accurate knowledge, God gave them up to a disapproved mental state, to do the things not fitting.”

The Scriptures offer no apologies, no concessions, no ambiguity; homosexual practices, adultery, fornication, are all repulsive in God’s sight. Accordingly, true Christians do not water down the Bible’s position on “disgraceful sexual appetites” merely to become more popular or more acceptable to modern culture. Nor do they agree with any movement dedicated to the promotion of homosexuality as a normal life-style.

When religious leaders campaign for the ordination of homosexuals and Lesbians, what effect does this have on members of their churches, especially the young people? Is it not an inducement to experiment with sex outside marriage? In contrast, God’s Word urges Christians to “flee from fornication.” (1 Corinthians 6:18) If a fellow believer falls into such sin, loving help is given with a view to restoring the person to God’s favor. (James 5:16, 19, 20) What if this help is rejected? The Bible states that unless such ones repent, they ‘will not inherit God’s kingdom.
