Eat fish which have a lot of fat.
Less meat.
Use plant oil when cooking.
Or do an 'all raw' diet (no cooked or baked products at all).
Stop using alcohol and tabacco. These things are always a good idea, especially in this case.
Exercise: take the bike to work.
Although, this site tells other things:

Even if true, i think my mentioned things are healthy anyway, even if those things wouldn't be needed to lower cholesterol or if lowering isn't needed anyway.

Be very careful with medicines or vitamin pills and the like.

There are some good answers here. One increasing your soluble fiber to 7 grams daily is great, and fish oil, and niacin. These are all effective. This is what I do and I also take plant sterols from a product called Cholest Off by Nature Made. They claim that studies have shown that taking 1800mg daily (4tabs) and following the other guidlines can lower cholesterol up to 24%. I will add that if one has a serious blood lipid problem then natural methods are not going to lower it like a lipator can.

Niacin is very effective in lowering cholesterol, but even though it is available without prescription, you should consult with a doctor before taking it in the dosages required. You can get timed-release Niacin that lowers the severity of the flushing/tingling that is a side effect of this medicine. It can also cause liver problems (like statins can) so you should really take in under a doctor's care.

Oatmeal is a wonderful way to start, either a package of your favorite kind for breakfast every day, or in the form of Cheerios. If you aren't into that, you can get Oatmeal Tabs from the health food store, or check for them online. In addition to help lower your cholesterol, Oatmeal can also keep you "regular" by adding natural fiber to your diet....
