This is from Canada...our deaths are piling up, and not making a difference.

Have you been to Iraq? Do you know first hand that there isn't a difference being made? Just because the media chooses to focus on what is wrong in Iraq doesn't mean that a difference is not being made. Unless you go first hand and witness the schools, rebuilding efforts, etc. How do you know? Have you talked the the Iraqi people? (not the insurgents)

First, get as many facts as possible. Be sure that your statement about "not making a difference" is really true. Here are some areas where the war has made a difference in Iraq:

1. Iraqi GDP grew by the largest amount in history, while unemployment dropped by 75%. Iraqi currency has soared in the last year. Its oil revenues also grew despite the insurgency. In other words, Iraqis are seeing wealth that they have never seen before.

2. Iraq has changed from a brutal theocracy to a democracy. Despite the current civil war in the country, deaths per year are lower than under Saddam, though they are certainly more public.

It is possible that the war will be lost to the insurgents, the fragile democracy will fail and the Iraq will turn into a hotbed for international terrorists. If that occurs, then it is certainly true that coalition troups will indeed have been lost in vain. We are not at that point today. The situation is a mess, but there is still hope.

Canada has an extremely low involvement in the war, though the death of any soldier is tragic.

If you truly are opposed to the war, you should register your discontent via emails, web sites, blogs, forums (like this one), etc. Beyond that, you need to consider the depth of your opposition.

If your opposition is great enough, then you should change citizenship from Canada to another country. Research your new desired country very carefully, as most countries have been involved in wars in the past that you may not have supported. For example, France was the first Western country fighting in Vietman and has recently intervened in Bosnia and in Africa.

Civil disobedience is a start. This means protesting, organizing, canvasing public areas. Some say 'don't pay your taxes" because it's your money funding the war that you oppose.

Revolt is the next step, though I can't see it happening in Canada or in the U.S. The nations that are supposedly the most free are also the most difficult to oppose, either peacefully or otherwise, but our conscience demands we do something. Jefferson said that a revolution every 20 years is good for a nation, and he was president of the United States. Can you imagine Bush saying something like that?

You support the troops no questions asked. It is their job and their career choice to be there ,no one forced them. How can you claim that their deaths have been in vane?We don't see the difference everyday on the news but will all come to light. Support the troops not the war.Casualties are an unfortunate part of war.I don't agree with it or the reasons behind it. I sure as hell don't agree with the politicians that sent them there but support the troops and make your educated views know. The Canadians will get Bin Laden for his role in the terrorist attacks in the U.S. and other countries .(While Bush feels the oil and more global power is more important.)Once again Canada will prove victorious.SUPPORT CANADIAN TROOPS!!!!!!!

As of 27 NOV 2006 44 soldiers and 1 diplomat from Canada have been killed in Afghanistan. The US has had 354 soldiers die in Afghanistan as of 29 DEC 2006. Canada has zero (0) soldiers in Iraq. Once Canada steps up to the plate and offers up some real help, then you can complain.

People of the world should write to the newly elected Congressmen and Senators of the US. Then need to hear from millions of people. Find their e-mails on the internet.

They have been alone and squandererd for the past 6 years by Neoconservative fascists. It was a deliberate plan to confuse and minimalize democracy. Now it's time to empower all the leaders who want to do good. The way to do that is to let them hear from EVERYONE around the world.

Make your voice heard. Organize your friends and neighbors. I got our son to register his 19 year old house-mates. He got them all to the polls. They had never voted before. They voted for anti-war candidates.
