Korbel, just as good as any French champage and runs about 12-15 dollars a bottle.

Martinelli make a sparkling wine... if your friends aren't aficianados, they'll enjoy the bubbles and the sweetness... not quite fine enough to be called beads though and I can't find a brut.
California Sparkling Wines are a safe bet for you, they're technically champagne, but they're not allowed to use that name cause it's trademarked by Champagne, France (the sour grapes of the frigid north), if you're going to a dealer or wineshop, talk to a salesperson and explain your situation, and they'll probably give you a discount for buying a bunch... get a couple and buy a bucnh of them at Costco or whatever wholesale club you're a member of.
If you can find it, the Nicolas Feuillate Premier Cru (non-vintage) is my fav for uner $30. Non-vintage means that the wine has been mixed with wines from crops of pervious years, it prouces a more aged wine and is ready for drinking as soon as you get it... it also means it's a bit cheaper.

There are a few categories. Depends if you like it dry or not. Chandon Sparkling Blanc de Noirs -Retails between $13 and $15 Gloria Ferrer Royal Cuvee '97 Retails $24-$28 Mirabelle Brut by Schramsberg Retails $18 to $23 Mumm Napa Blanc de Blanc '01 Retails $16 to $22 and 2 of my favorites Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs '02 and Blanc de Noir '03 Retailing about $26 (these are great if you don't really like too dry-I love everything, but these and the 97 Gloria Ferrer Cuvee are my best bets in your price range) Have a great time.

I would go with sparkling cider it tastes better and is a whole lot cheaper. than cheap champagne
and just a FYI all champagne comes from Champagne, France. anyplace else it is just sparkling wine.
"Dom Perignon.
Don't settle for less than that. " right on thumbs up!!!
