You have got to be committed to any pet but especially a dog. They can be your "best friend" if you take care of them properly. Do you have enough yard space to let them run? House space at night when it's cold out? Enough money when they need to see the vet or buy puppy chow? If so, do a little research on training dogs. They absolutely must have discipline to be happy. It really sucks when people get puppies, get bored with the upkeep and send them off to the pound. Or worse, let them go in the woods. Think about it before you decide. Best...bam2

you should choose a dog based on your lifestyle. If you are an active person with a lot of time to devote to running and playing with a dog, then get a big active breed. But if you dont, then dont because they will get bored and chew/dig/tear up everything. The american kennel club has some information about dog breeds and temperments. Generally, big dogs need big yards, smaller dogs need smaller yards. look at the breed type, sporting/hunting dogs are more active then toy class and terriers. (NOT all terriers) also think about your weather conditions. If you live in florida its not cool to keep a husky in the yard all day. Likewise its not cool to keep a chichuaua in alaska outside. Dogs take a lot of time and if you cant devote time for playing you should maybe think about a cat. they are more independent. Dogs need toys and company they are pack animals. Again, what they like depends on the breed and why they were bred for. some dogs like water play, others like chasing rabbits or cats, some lay around.

Go to your local SPCA and talk to someone about the time you can allot for a dog and your space, and your personality. you can even go check out a book about dog breeds to get a general idea of what breed might be good for you, what medical conditions to expect, etc.

Hummm.... I would start reading up on the care of a dog. They are a member of your Family from the moment you adopt one and is a life time commitment. Dogs are fairly easy to care for, they do not ask for much, but they do need Love, Food, and a warm Home to sleep in and they will be a friend for their whole life. Remember when Dog is spelled Backwards it is GOD. They have an unconditional Love that sermounts everything and hold no grudges. They do not lie to you, every feeling they show is honest truth.

If you want a low-maintenance dog, get an old, fairly healthy dog. They won't want to run around a lot, and won't demand constant energetic attention. If you are unsure about getting a dog, research dogs at the library and online, or start out with a smaller, simpler pet (mouse, gerbil, etc.) and work your way up to a dog. Make sure you can be a responsible owner before you get a pet. Also, when you're at school, make sure your dog has plenty of water and doesn't have access to stuff that could get it in trouble. Basics: don't leave food lying around in easy to reach places, put wastebaskets where they can't be knocked over, close toilet seat lids, and make sure all gates and outside doors are securely closed.

well dont get a small dog that wants attention 24/7/ get a dog like a golden retriever or lab.To keep them happy give them toys and love them. They like to go for walk and play. During school either let them run free around the house or get them a play pen and pit toys in the pin.

ask a local pet store or humane society about what you can do to make the dog happy

Dogs are a huge responsibility. They needs a lot of attention and care. They have to be walked 2-3 times daily, depending on breed - they have to be bathed and groomed - they have to be actively played with to help keep them fit and help burn energy - you have to trim their nails and clean their ears. Puppies are even worse because you have to add in the hyperness and the constant chewing and nipping during play. During school hours, you can put him in a crate or kennel but that is an awful long time for the dog to be locked up. If you have a fenced in yard, outside would be fine but make sure there is plenty of water on hand for him at all times. Not food because adult dogs only need to eat 1-2 times daily. Puppies more often but feeding once before school, once after, and once before bed would be fine.

Dogs like to be with their owners mostly. They also like to be with other dogs. So, if you cant afford regular vet bills for check-ups and vax, buy toys, train them to sit, down, stay, or like to clean up poop, then DO NOT GET A DOG. I love dogs more than most people. Most people dont deserve the love and respect of a dog. If you can truly make a committment to a life long friend, then you will be very happy with a dog. IT TAKES TIME, MONEY, LOVE, and PATIENTS. Otherwise dont get a dog.

Re-Feel the doggie-dish and water bowl every 2 days, change the spot where they do their own bussiness, let them get lots of rest and lots of play, like a frisbee,a ball,a rope,or a chew toy,if you follow these instructions very well your dog will love you!
(results may vary from what type of dog it is)
but they mostly like thses instructions best!
HAVE FUN! . . .

Don't get one. Not yet anyway. It sounds like you need to know alot more about dogs before you even think about it. They require a long term commitment.
