I have two dogs, an eight year old cockapoo and a two year old Lhasa Apso (both females). My only problem with the girls is that Tibet (the Lhasa) gets very excited when company comes and in order to get the visitors attention before Cooke (the cockapoo) does she will jump up and grab the persons hand. I know her intention is not to be aggressive, but I don't like the idea that she is biting, even in this way. I have tried to seperate them from the guests when they first enter the house thinking that she will calm down a bit and have tried to introduce them into the room one at a time with no success. I should probably mention that Cookie also gets very excited but does not jump up or bite, she barks. This is the only behavior issue that I have and I tend to have a lot of company. Tibet is equally excited if the person is new or someone she knows. She used to get very excited when I came home, but has been better since I have basically ignored her when she is hyper.

Your last sentence is your answer. When you have guests over make sure to tell them to ignore the dogs until they become calm. It worked for the Dog Whisperer!

well I'm not a specialist but i do know a lot about dogs and some good information on dog pyschology. A key thing to dog aggression or behavioral problem is excersise make sure your dogs are getting plenty of walks once a day at least. Also don't be afraid to show leader ship, dicipline is very important if you don't show dominence your dogs may try to over power you and will think they are in charge. If your dog does something wrong don't get angry or frusterated because they will sence that and take advantage of you. When they act up. try ingnoring them. use a key sound like a quick shh or snap your fingers when they act like that and put them into a submissive state like laying down or calmly sitting. But do take note that sound is not that useful touch is the best to do with dogs, you could use a quick poke or pinch. Only give them attention when they are calm. You probably all ready know that dogs can sence your mood if your angry sad ect. So always make your your not ancious. A lot of the time it's the owner that has the problem because they don't know how to properly dicipline the dog. and your causing tension in the dogs mind. I really could help you with more research but i don;t have time right now so feel free to email me dogdemonninja@yahoo.com sorry i couldn't help more.

Yes. keep ignoring her when she is hyper and advice your guests to do the same thing. only pay attention to her when she is sitting or behaving calmly. If she bites playful or not she needs a spank and to be immediately put in a kennel or outside/other room. whatever her least fav. punishment is. You should try a muzzle too. THis is in behavioral terms known as response pervention. She cat bite if she has the muzzle on. I think the ignoring is best but if that starts not work then do the muzzle thing, THEN only pet her when she calms down. Dont baby talk to them cause this gets dogs worked up. if she's bad a firm NO! and a spanking, then to the kennel/yard what have you. AND you have to be consistant. Don't do it one day and then not the next. this has to be an everytime thing. Make sure your guests do it too. it may get worse before better but keep it up and it will slowly drop off.

first take both dogs to a training class and teach them to sit and accept praise. also stay, and down. when company comes put them on a sit stay and make them stay there until you give permission to get up and greet. put a leash on tibet. if she should start to jump pull her down and make her sit and stay again. repeat this as many times for both dogs until they calmly greet visitors. neither behavior is acceptable, but the mouthing could accidentally turn into a bite, especially if a child should come through your door. find a good friend and practice this exercise over and over for several days or weeks, whatever it takes for them to relearn how to greet visitors. they sound like good dogs that just need to learn how to accept company and they will probably find that people like them better when calm. and tell your guests if the dogs should get excited just to ignore them as you have.

What you need to do is tell the guests to not pet the dogs until they are sitting. When they are sitting or in a calm position, and they then get the affection they long for, they'll learn thats how to get it. By leaving the guest alone physically, but rather using their eyes.

My puppy is a handful.. but she's getting much better. I can't get her to sit for long periods of times.. she taps her paws anxiously. So instead.. I hold her butt down gently as I pet her or other people do and I tell her to stay.

on the grounds that he's been allowed to be extremely badly behaved for his finished existence, his behaviour's quite lots ingrained now. do not comprehend why all and sundry could decide directly to stay with a depressing canines without doing something approximately it, yet once you want to attempt to alter him at this overdue degree, you want expert help. hire a behaviourist to return and evaluate this canines and inform you what you will desire to do with him.
