George W. Bush has finally succeeded in killing Sadam Hussein, avenging Hussein's threat against his father, and showing that he could do something his father couldn't do (or more accurately, knew better than to do).

Hussein was an evil, murderous despot who deserved death, no question about that, even though he posed no imminent threat to the United States.

Here's my question: Was it worth 3,000 brave young American lives, and over 600,000 innocent Iraqi lives (so far) for Bush to pursue his personal vendetta against Sadam? Was it worth the billions of US taxpayer's dollars that he has spent to look brave & strong, wear a flight suit for a "Mission Accomplished" photo op, and to look brave, not like a coward who dodged combat service in Viet Nam?

Isn't it a fact that Bush, with his lies (it's documented that he manipulated the intelligence) has killed more US citizens than the terrorists on 9/11 and more Iraqis than did Saddam Hussein?

Was it worth it?

I agree, Choc. Thank goodness the American people had enough sense overall to try to stop, or at least limit this guy in the midterm elections.

Thank GOD and our forefathers for the wisdom of our Constitution which, among other things, prevents despots like Hitler and Hussein from usurping our government and taking over our country. This President, like no other (includinjg Nixon) proved the need for that wisdom, as well as for term limits.

BENJAMIN: Well said! It is important to realize that besides causing the deaths of more Americans than the 9/11 terrorists, and of more Iraqi's than Saddam, Bush has created more terrorists than Osama Bin Laden.

420LINDA - Americans DO have a say in what our country does in other lands, and we spoke loudly on election day. What is too bad is that a self-serving megalomaniac, and his party, tricked us into electing him President, then used the attack on America as an excuse to pursue his own personal agenda.

SAN DIEGO: What a great response, and what a truthful, insightful way to put it: "we have been part of one massive assassination plot." So true, and so well said!

AUTUMN - Good answer! THanks for sharing that quote from the serviceman. I know a lot of them feel that way, as do American citizens. When will the lies stop? Since Bush is continuing his arrogance and blustering and denial of the truth and disregard for the will of the American AND Iraqi people, it will no doubt take another American election.

Nope.

Saddam's execution isn't worth it and it's going to cost more than what we've payed already in both human lives and dollar value. America and Iraq are doomed as long as we stay the course and have a cocky, proud, hardheaded leader in the White House.

I know people are gonna say "It's not just for Saddam but for terrorism and Democracy" Well guess what? The Iraq war has created more terrorists than ever and America is more vulnerable to attack then ever before. As for Democracy? Well, so far all Iraq has gotten is greedy, brutal leaders who will do as Saddam did as soon as they get the chance. And there's your war.

Nobody should have to watch any family member led to slaughter to satisfy the political ambitions of an incompetent. That's what this so called war is all about. Saddam's execution in itself may bring some closure to people that have been affected the most, the innocents executed and poisoned by lethal gas. (I remember seeing the photos in National Geographic). But it sure as hell won't solve the problems of the Iraqi people. There is so much that needs to be done to bring a semblance of peace and unity to the country and the only ones who will be able to do that are the Iraqis. Time will tell.

It isn't worth it. Saddam is a symbol, the end of the Bathe regime. But the end is two decades too late. His execution saddens me because as the news spread of his death there are already sharp divisions in Iraq and all over the world, some calling for celebrations while others vengeance. If anything, his death may bring more violence to the troops. I found a quote that I particularly think is poignant. "First it was weapons of mass destruction. Then when there were none, it was that we had to find Saddam. We did that, but then it was that we had to put him on trial," said Spc. Thomas Sheck, 25, who is on his second tour in Iraq. "So now, what will be the next story they tell us to keep us over here?""

Was it worth it? In my opinion, no. It is too bad that we don't get to have a say about what our country is doing in other lands. I think most Americans do not want the US having a war in any country, unless the US is attacked.

There's no possible way it could be worth it, seeing as how more American's have died as a result of the American invasion of Iraq than the terrorist attacks.
