If you like big dogs that are protective of their families (especially children) then a Newfoundland is what you need. They are really huge, 160-200lbs, but they are easily trainable, smart as hell, and they love kids. They are water dogs so if you ever have a kid that plunks in the pool, that dog would rescue them in a second. Seriously they are very smart and very mild mannered, and if you ever get the chance to get a Newfoundland you should get one. Not many people could handle that big of a dog though, you will look like you are walking a bear.

Great Danes are often reffered to as the Gentle Giants. By nature they are calm and loving animals. My advice is to rescue one at a young age or get a Great Dane puppy from a breeder you've done some research on to make sure the dog you recieve will have a better chance of not being sick. They are very dainty animals most of the time but very smart. My dane won't eat most people food and taught himself how to open doors. The key to raising a well behaved dane is training from a very young age. Just make sure to balance positve and negitave reinforcement. Good luck!

PLEASE DON'T LAUGH !! But STANDARD POODLES are by far the best BIG dog. I am not talking about the little ankle bitters, but the original size !!! My mom now owns her fourth one, so I grew up with them . They do not shed , they are great for people who have allergies , they get to 70- 80 pounds, they have the bark of a Shepard, and they are great around kids. Also they never smell dogie and believe it or not they are one of the SMARTEST dog breads !! As in any size dog the behavior has a lot to do with the way they are raised !! I would suggest you get any dog as young as you can give it lots of love and get training for it

you really need to do some research on dogs and training them. sounds like you just want a "tough" dog. which means you could easily and not mean to be the kind of owner that has an aggressive dog. all dogs that have vocal cords bark. you need to learn about characteristics of a particular breed, and then talk to owners of this breed, vets, and breeders. and then i suggest you find a mix of this at the local shelter. they will match a dog to your lifestyle and will come already spayed or neutered. plan on spending lots of money on vet care, food, treats, training etc....if you just want a dog to bark at people, in which case this dog should not have been barking at people in petsmart, that can lead to aggression of other dogs in the area. talk to actual trainers and pet professionals, this does not include the average petsmart employee. please please please do not just get a tough dog as an accessory for you. do your research and decided if you can commit to raising a good, safe, well behaved dog.

All dogs are safe good dogs by default. Since this dog is huge, and not a puppy, you should immeadiatley find out who owned it before. How it was treated, where it lived, the kind of world its from. This dog should be fine Great Danes are fabulous and patient protectors, however if it was raised by people who were wrong by it, it may not be safe at all for kids, esp. considering its size.

well great danes live about 8 years, so that one is probably half through it's life. they are genearlly good with kids, but they are a huge HUGE responsibility. They have medical issues due to their size (like hip dysplasia) require a lot of room to run around and food. THey are a huge investment. I would consider talking to someone at your local great dane rescue before adopting him.
If you want a good dog for protection and kids, i suggest a lab.

All dogs could potentially be dangerous, but if you want a "safe" dog I suggest you get a young adult dog, 1 to 3 years old. They are old enough to not pee on everything and get ultra hyper but young enough to train and bond easily w/ you.Poodles and some water dog breeds don't shed, which is useful if they will be kept indoors. Ask friends who own dogs, check out library books on dogs, and search websites for advice and dogs up for adoption at shelters. Good luck on your search for a canine companion! :)

i might want to imagine that it truly is accepted, because even idea they're both neutered, the female nevertheless get in warmth, and the male nevertheless has his needs to mate, yet both, the female or the male could have pups, even if the male humps her. Your lady canines change into operated now to not have littles pups yet on the different hand your male can nevertheless bounce different lady canines with no need them pregnant. it truly is a very accepted component that they bounce eachother. because the really component that has been taken out of your 2 canines is reproductive device, wich potential they could't reproduce, yet they nevertheless have accepted behaviors for opposite sex. after I suggested they took their reproductive device, i merely meant they tide their tubes interior which end them from freeing both her egg or his sperm. wish this may of helped you.

you can keep any dog at home. i think that if you are in the city u shouldn't get a hunting dog. a small dog. it doesn't matter if you get a girl or a boy. if they want to be the alpha dog then don't get it
