Did you call? We are so busy answering calls for service. We answer some of the most ridiculous calls but have to just in case there's something to it because of the liability. (I'm talking about calls where a parent says my son won't listen to me when I tell him to do his homework kind of crap) We, nor can the majority of departments, keep a full staff these days and that contributes. I put one in jail, that takes a couple of hours out of my day easy. I make a case and it's longer. So I'm off the street for an extended amount of time because of things like that as are the other officers. You can't say we're not doing our job since the prisons are overcroweded. We must be since we are the ones who put the inmates in jail. So I don't know what to tell you other than you might not have good luck and shouldn't go to Vegas.

You could hire an off duty cop to follow you around everywhere you go just in case you needed one

Most of the time, I cannot do actual patrol work because I am too busy responding to calls for service.
I can spend an 8 hour day literally going from high priority call to high priority call, taking reports in between, and if I make an arrest, I am in the station until the arrestee in booked. I usually never make it out of the station on time (to go home), and find that I put in 60 to 80 hour weeks on a regular basis.
It is very frustrating to be only re-active instead of pro-active, but there are simply not enough officers on my department to get to every call, and to just patrol the streets looking for people who are committing crimes.

"Blue Steel & Lace".......perfect answer !! Maybe if people would stop calling us over stupid civil matters we would have more time to be pro-active. I can't tell you how many times I've been called to a home because a child is refusing to go to school, or won't listen to his/her parents !! My favorite is when the caller gets mad at me because I tell her there isn't anything I can do because of its civil nature. THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE YOURSELVES !!
Then again, if we had more time to be pro-active, more people would be caught doing wrong........then they will be on here complaining !!!!!

No kidding. A couple years ago I lost my brakes at a notoriously dangerous intersection and was pulled over for quite a while and two cruisers passed me (I had my hazards on) and neither stopped to see if I was okay or anything. The only person who did was some random person driving by.

It always seem to wok out that way. When you don't need them, they are all over the place. I guess this is one of the great mysteries of life.
