What do you do in your brazilian jiu jitsu class? I attended one, and we did some drills/warm up and he taught us a technique and taught us a counter to it. we practiced it for awhile and then we had some light sparring. Is that a good class schedule or bad?

Sounds exactly right - the only thing that I might add into there which Im sure was in there anyway -

Positional Sparring - instead of both fighting from the knees when you start - start from a specific position each time - in the guard - from the turtle - from the back

As previous posters had put it that's about typical. In our we class we do warm ups, cardio etc for about 15-20 minutes, 1-2 techniques drills for about 20 minutes, escapes drills for 20 minutes and sparring for the remainder of the class 30-45 minutes.

Yeah that sounds like a standard class, what you will find with BJJ is that it is more sparring and you will only get better when putting the techniques into practice(Sparring)
