You are definitely allowed to; it's Eid anyway. BTW it works for both eids. Where did you hear this from?
Islam is the simplest of the religions if you practice it. The reason the other religions appear simpler in terms of dietary rules etc etc is simply because they choose not to follow the scriptures as strictly as possible or choose to have a fresher and more modernistic approach to it, which I think is quite logical and justifiable.
Go Deuteronomy and find out how difficult it is to just eat!

On Eid-ul-Fitr you should eat something sweet before eid prayers. The same is for Eid-ul-Adha but if you sacrifice an animal on that day then it is preferable for you to have meat first thing in the morning.
