According to the Bible, if you have taken in enough knowledge to be convinced that Jesus is God's son who was sent to redeem sinful mankind, as well as other things contained in the Bible, you get baptized in the same fashion set out in the Scriptures. Since you have to be old enough have come to an accurate knowledge, that rules out infant baptism. And while you can dedicate yourself to God through private prayer to him, your baptism displays this dedication to others and is your symbolic of "dying" to your former way of life (full emmersion in water) and then "being raised up" to your new Christian way of life (when you come out of the water).

Baptism doesn't make you Christian, the new birth does. Baptism is a public decree of what you've done. It is an outward expression of an inward change.
(2Corinthians 5:17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Well, I got baptized twice yet left Christianity a while ago so the lesson is:
To be a Christian, you have to feel it in your heart...baptism is part of it but what you feel in your heart and soul is what will truly make you a Christian.
Always follow your heart!

Some churches believe you should like the baptist and others say that by accepting Jesus and inviting Him into your heart that you are baptized in spirit and still others believe that you have to have Christians lay their hands on you and pray for you to be baptized in the spirit. So I guess it would be better to ask the pastor of your particular church what they believe.

It depends on your religion, but a christain is one who believes in Jesus and asks him into thier hearts, and let's him run the show, living your life for Jesus, some religions baptize, other sprinkle water, don't do anything you don't feel comfortable with, I personally feel it is symbolizim, a way to physically show that you are a christain, I don't think it is required, but I guess we will never know what true true until we die.
Thats just my opinon

Do you remember reading about the two thieves that were crucified along side of Jesus Christ? Did either of them have time to get baptized? No they did not.
So is it a prerequisite to get baptized? Jesus Christ was baptized and if lead there, do it. You make a big splash and a huge commitment.><>

You are supposed to be to receive the Holy Spirt.
Since Jesus did this, it is expected that you are supposed to also do this willfully and intentionally at some point in time.

Yes.
With the baptism you're marked with the sign of Christ and accept that you believe in him. In the Catholic Church : God Father -God-, God Son -Jesus-, and Holy Spirit.
