All of the above suggestions are great and are on target. I have just one thing to add -- if the dog is outdoors a lot in this cold weather, the pads will not get humidity like they need. I would humidify the house (with a humidifier) and have the dog sleep inside (ideally near the humidifier), or you will be curing cracked pads all winter long.

Do not use salt for ice near the dog or where he/she travels.

we use neosporin on ours and it wont hurt them if they lick it and it will help heal it fast,, in the winter we have to get a special salt called paw safe that the paw pads dont crack open but when we are walking them they get onto some salt that isnt that brand, and they crack open and start to bleed, so that is what we put on our dogs for cracked paw pads,

I would take the dog to the vet if they were really bad. But, my old dog had the same problem. We put neosporin or aloe cream on her feet and wrapped them up. We changed the bandages every morning for a week. It helped heal her pads.

you could rub some petroleum jelly into the pads in the past he is going to mattress for the night - that way it is going to soak in in one day. If he's not favoring his paws than it probable isn't extreme, placed concrete, rocks, chilly climate, etc might reason particularly dryness and cracking.

Well, why are they cracked in the first place? They really shouldn't be.. try putting on vitamin E. Ask the vet about it, he should give you the best guidance. Good luck.
