My 6 year old orange cat has black spots on his gums and nose and the inside of his eyelids. He has had them but they are getting worst, it seems like he has more now. My other young orange cat, which is about 2 years old, also has them in his mouth and on his nose, but my black and white cat doesn't have them anywhere. I was wondering maybe this is just in orange cats or what?? Not really sure... anyone with answers?

My orange and white cat has them too... black spots around lips and gums... more like dark freckles around his nose and ears. They are just pigmentations... kinda like our own freckles or liver spots. As long as the spots do not look like they are sores or bumps or swollen... shouldn't worry. Oh, mycat's black spots began to manifest themselves after he turned 2 yrs old. He goes for checkups and vet makes no comment about them so I just assumed that these spots are freckles and harmless.

I am more concerned about spots on the cat's gums. Cats like humans can have tooth decay. You may consider brushing you cat's teeth weekly or monthly. Otherwise check if the spots change color, shape, or grow. Skin cancer is rare in cats but can happen.

It is just like with humans. you have freckles and moles. so does cats. I have noticed that fair furred cats are more likely to have them but then again the same goes for humans. White or lighter skinned people tend to have freckles and moles; dark and black people do not.
unless they look infected or really gross in some way there should be no problem.

some cats are born with marks on their skin that doesn't show through their skin. my own cat has a black spot on his nose that has been getting darker as he gets older. if you are really worried see your vet but it could just be the way your cat is.
