Without an external antenna the set top box won't receive anything except a station whose transmitter happens to be located in your back yard. You can hook rabbit ears to the set top box but you won't get the UHF stations. Better to hook the rabbit ears directly to the TV.

Yes. There are attachments on the back of your TV that will allow you to hook it up.
