this Eid is called Eid al Adha, meaning the sacrifice.
When Abraham saw in his dream that he was Killing his son (Ismael, not Isaaac) for the 3rd time, he knew that it was a command from god, so he went to his son and told him so, his son replied " do what ye hath been commanded", but when he put the knife to his throat, it would not cut, and at that moment God Gave Abraham a Sheep, you see, it was to test Abraham's faith.
we relive this experience by buying sheep and giving it's meat to relatives and the poor.

Eid: Festival
The Eid ul Adha, coming tomorrow, is celebrated not in December as some of us might want to think, though this year, it is purely co-incidental. It is celebrated on the 10th of Dhul-hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic Calendar. As the Calendar is lunar, it is 360-day a year and therefore does not coincide with the Gregorian, Solar calendar. It will move 5 or 6 days advancingly as the years advance.
It is to commemorate the Sacrifice of Abraham. It might be good to read the Islamic perspective of the story.
The Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the 1st of Shawal, the 10th month of the calendar, after the completion of the fasting month of Ramadhan. Google it man. don't be shy.

Sounds a little like Christmas.
Seems to me that Muslims, Jewish, Christians and Pagans all seem to have some FESTIVAL in December, so maybe the nay sayers better hush.
Maybe we should have HALF of DECEMBER off with pay to cover all these festivals!
