My 2 year old Spaniel/Lab mix won't stop chewing on things...the TV, my bed posts, old alarm clock, brothers toys, shoes, slippers, socks, tables, chairs, her toys, her bed, blankets, the garbage can, the cupboard that holds the garbage can, my arm, car keys, old computer mouse, drawers, eye glass case, sliding glass door, wood outside, the fence outside, the cement outside, rocks, the refrigerator, the list goes on and on and on. I don't know what to do. She's driving me nuts! What’s wrong with her? I mean I take her on walks every day, treat her well, give her treats, and over all I'm a good owner. I don't know why she does what she does. Help me please!?!?

She only does it when we are home and any products that we have ever used that advertise that dogs don't like the taste she seems to love. She's crazy!

get him or her some chew toys! the poor dog is bored- get some tasty chew toys, like nylabones, which are flavored. don't slap your dog in the head like the first person suggested- that's abuse and won't make your dog stop chewing. spaniels and labs are both very intelligent dogs and need stimulation. dogs aren't vegetables- they aren't happy just sitting doing nothing. your dog's only available form of entertainment is chewing on things, and obviously doesn't have anything better to chew on. get some good, durable chew toys- don't be a cheapskate. dogs are a financial commitment as well.

if you get her at least six or seven good chewtoys and is still chewing, than get sour apple spray- it's available at just about every pet location, and places like target. instead of you physically hurting your dog when she chews (making her associate a normal dog habit with your anger), she'll simply not want to chew on things you don't want her to, because they'll taste bad. it's going to be alot more effective, and both of you will be happier. but remember- DON'T HIT HER!!!! she'll be discouraged from chewing on her chew toys then as well, and won't be a happy dog.

it's good that she goes for a walk everyday, that's healthy, but one walk a day isn't enough to entertain her for the entire day- she needs stimulation outside of that one walk.

Go to your local Petco or Petsmart and get this "no bite" spray. They have it pretty much at every pet store and its about 6-7.00 for a big aerosol bottle of it. Spray it where she is biting and it has a bitter taste so she wont want to bite it anymore. It should help. Also when you see her chewing on things u tell her no and replace that item with her own chew toy.

How long are the walks you take her on? For a lab mix they should be at least 30-45 minutes. If you have a treadmill I also recommend that to tire her out. It really does seem like she is bored and has way too much misplaced energy.

Well, how do you punish her when she chews on stuff? Do you just scold her or do you spank her? My dog is an australian shepard and would chew everything we had up. It finally stopped when we started spanking him. Another probabibility is that it is just a phase. Think of your dog like its a child. You may not want to discipline it too much, but you can't also baby it. It needs to know when it has done something wrong.

sometimes dogs chews and do nasty things to get your attention, does she do that when you're away? maybe shes experiencin separate anxiety. There is certain kind of solution that you can get on pet shops that spray onto the tiems she chewed, its made from sour apple, you can use cotton wool to apply on those electronic items, dogs hate the taste.

give it a try. It helps.

To get your dog to stop chewing on something put Tabasco sauce or some hot spice on it so when he bites on it he will never do it again. It worked for a Friend of mine

First thing make sure she has plenty of hard stuff like sticks, bones, even rocks are ok. My lab loves to chew on bricks but you need to make sure that you are also playing things like fetch with her.My dog will tear up anything if we ignore him when he wants to play fetch. She might also just be trying to clean her teeth.
