A number pops up on my caller ID, no name. How do I find out who this is? I did a search, some sites did not give me info about cell phones, which is what I assume this is

It all depends. If it is a land line, and you can't find it online, you can go to your local library. Most libraries have Polk Directories. With this directory you can look up by number. It also has many of the non-published numbers.

If you call the police, they will tell you to contact the phone company, unless they are making threats. It is considered "Telephone Harassment" in most areas. The phone company's have certain requirements before they will perform a trace. If they are making threats, they requre you to file a police report. If the calls are coming from out of state, they will most likely have to trace the number through several providers. You would think this would be easy, but the phone companies complicate the matter. If you do need to contact the phone company, be prepared. They are going to require that you have a written log of when the calls are received. You should start logging the calls now. After you have done this they will setup a call trace.

I hope this helps.

Unless it is a landline phone, you will not able to find the number. However, for landlines you can just go to whitepages.com and click on the "reverse phone" tab, and type in the number...or you can block your number (*82) and call the number back and see who it is.

Note down the number, give it over to the telephone service provider, or you can even inform the police if it's too serious e.g threathening you through the phone...

Call it back and prank them.... If it's a cell phone your likely never to find out who it is... Just make sure you dial *67 if you call them.

You could go to the police (prank calling is actually considered a crime) and they can find who it is.
