depends on the situation. i would say yes it's ok but you should get a proffessional opinion first. i have had enlarged tonsils for the past 10 years and i'm still ok. they dont hurt, i dont feel them and they dont bother me. i have no infection either. after having a cold once, they just never went back down. i went to a ENT and he checked them out, i had no infection and he said he did not want to take them out and actually for an adult, surgery is more risky then leaving them in. i also got a second opinion just to make sure from another ENT and he said they were fine as well. i only get a cold once a year and i did have some problems with them this year once. avoid listening to the stereo types if your doctor feels they are ok. you will not go deaf. also, sometimes tonsils swell up due to infections, once the infection is gone they cannot go down due to scar tissue. it only takes a couple of weeks for scar tissue to form. once this happens, your skin around your tonsils are streched and it's hard for them to go back into place, hence they stay big.

You should speak with your doctor. It is possible that your tonsils are swollen due to the streptococcus, this is a normal reaction. You doctor should have established a treatment plan for your strep.

The other possibility is that you have also developed tonsillitis or a tonsillar abscess. In either case you should speak with your doctor. Visit the following link for information on both conditions. Good luck.

Swollen tonsils require doctor's examination as it shows about some kind of infection is still lingering in your body.

Since you just had strep you should have it checked to make sure, you can easily be reinfected. Did you take antibiotics for the strep? For relief until then you can try to gargle warm, salty water a few times a day and take some Motrin and DON'T smoke. It will make it worse.

Your tonsils are for filtering germs out of the air.
If they don't hurt, don't sweat it-they are just
doing their job.
