They are one & the same. If your sister-in-law has a son he is your nephew. The only way they would not be blood related would be if your sister-in-law was married to someone else before & her children were fathered by her previous husband instead of by your brother.

I think I know what you are talking about. I want to make this very clear when I say this I am only talking about being related gentics. Gentically you are related to your nephew because the derived from your sister or brother. Your sister or brother derived from the same parents. Now if your inlaw's kids came from your spouces side then you have no genetic relation. With this being said when it comes to genes brothers and sisters are closer in relation then say your uncle. Because the two of you come from the same gene source. Where as your uncle only has one of the same gene source distance at that. Make sense

As long as your sister in law is the legit birth mother of your nephew, there is a blood line between you and her other children even if they are from a previous marriage. That is if your nephew your referring to his your brothers baby.

Your sister in law would have to be married to a sibling of yours, to be your sister in law, and since she has children I am assuming it is not a same sex marriage. Therefore her children are either your nephews or nieces. If she brought the children of a previous relationship to the marriage with your brother her children would not have any blood relationship with you or indeed your brother.

If your sister in law's kids are related by marriage, and you don't share fresh and blood. And your nephew is your sibling's kid, he is more blood because you share flesh and blood with him.

Any child born to your sister or brother would have a blood line to you.
Any child born to your husband's sister or brother would have a blood line to him.

I believe it is more important to cultivate relationships beyond the "blood is thicker than water" idea.

You are their aunt- and that is enough!
