I know so many.

Drink water upside down.

Hold your breath and swallow three times.

**WORKS** Get a glass of water, put a paper towel over it and drink it. As you inhale oxygen and drink the water it immediatly stops your hiccups.

Eat a scoop of peanut butter.

Hold your ears and swallow water.

I can stop other people's hiccups pretty easily, but only with people I know well, since this requires touching). I figured out how when I knew someone who got the hiccups all the time, and sometimes took an antacid to stop them. I had been reading about infant massage, and that led to this:

I have the person stretch out (laying or sitting), have them close their eyes and take deep slow breaths. While they do that, I gently rub their stomach in a clock-wise direction (in infant massage this stimulates the digestive system).

As best I can figure, all this works to relax the diaphragm and digestive system, which gets rid of the hiccups.

By the way, this works with several people with a high rate of success.

Last time I had the hiccups a friend asked me to tell her when I was about to hiccup again. I didn't, apparantly the concentration stopped them. Go figure!

Atarax, a cute orange triangular pill. I had chronic hiccups, loud, persistent suckers which would last hours. I went on atarax whenever they started. No idea why they began or what suddenly turned them off, but I sure am glad they're gone!

If taking a deep breath and holding it for as long as I can then exhaling very slowly doesn't stop it, then a teaspoon of sugar straight always works.

I heard that driving a nail through your finger with a hammer does the trick. I will admit that i have never tried that, though.
