Cats use their whiskers to guage distance (width). And yes, whiskers do grow back. It will take a few weeks before they are completely operational though.

lol Im sorry but the visual from that made me laugh also. I could only imagine my son doing that same thing. The cat's whiskers will definetly grow back because I personally did that when I was little to my own cat :( The whiskers are used to feel for the cats especially in the dark.

Sorry but the visual image in my mind of a cat with 1/4 inch whiskers made me laugh. But yes I think they will grow back. I think cats use them like little feelers. Poor kitty.

I have two cats and I had to look at their whiskers. They are pretty long so your son did quite a job on your kitty.

Yes- cats' whiskers perpetually grow- like human hairs.
My cat Smelle (real name Belle- but she likes to roll in stinky stuff) has singed hers many a time from sneaking too close to the fireplace when we'd turned our backs. Naughty kitty.
And we had to trim them a couple times as they had crud on them.
Sometimes you'll find a whole whisker that's dropped out on the floor.

they will grow back, the cats use there whiskers as a measuring device for entering tight places. There whiskers are as wide as the widest part of there body.

My now almost 22 yr. old son did this years ago. Yes, they'll grow back. But try to make sure he doesn't do it again! Cats really need their whiskers!!

Yes they will grow back. I picked up a stray kitten that followed my son home from school that her whiskers were burned off & they grew back. It helps with their sense of touch if I remember what the vet told me correctly.

They should grow back . they use them so that they know how big of an entrance they can get through. They are like feelers. I would keep an eye on them when they try getting into small places. Good luck . I think all kids will try to cut their own hair or the animals at one time or other in their lives. Kids will be kids. Good luck. I don't think you have to worry.
