Anyone in the united states own or drive one? I understand it is small and probably drives rough and has little power but aside from that is it dependable? What do you think of it?

A used vehicle is not an option. I want a bare bones car to drive to and from work. I bought a 2001 Kia Rio new and put over 100k miles on it with no problems whatsoever, well none that I had fixed that is. I would prefer the toyota.

There are lots of reviews out on the Yaris, and similar "mini" cars.
The Yaris was sold in Europe before reaching the US and so they have been around a while.
They are exactly what they are designed for, to be small and economical as fuel prices rise.
However, there are many things that reviewers have said about the car that really places a negative viewpoint on the vehicle.
1. Most people have said they don't like having the instrument panel in the "heads up" position. (Basically in the center of the car as opposed to being right in front of the driver) It looks really weird for those use to the standard dash in front of the driver.
2. Safety is not that great unless you get the optional side air bags per the iihs.org rating.
3. Engine is extremely underpowered at under 110 hp.
4. Price is high for a vehicle. In many places you can find a Corolla for around $13K, which is about the same price that the Yaris is selling for and with a more powerful engine and almost the exact same gas mileage.
5. They are dependable, but not a good value compared to the cost of other Toyota/Honda/Nissan Vehicles

Dependability has ALWAYS been Toyota's strong suit. I owned a '93 Toyota MR2 and it was one of the BEST cars I've owned, hands down!
Yaris having "little power' is an understatement, it is BASIC bare-bones Point A to Point B Utiliterian transportation. Inexpensive and good on gas- YES. Fun to Drive and Roomy - HELL NO!
BUT, If you have to stay within a certain budget and insist on buying a NEW car, go for it.
If it were ME, I'd spend the SAME money and get a late model used car with more style, room, and more horsepower.
The Yaris will be straining it's weak little 4 cylinder to pass most cars on the road, if you need to change lanes to exit at an off-ramp for example.
Best of Luck with whatever you choose!

The 2007 Toyota Yaris is not only economically sound, but fun to drive. I went to test drive it, looking at several different cars to lower my gas costs, and fell in love with the Yaris after I turned the first corner. It's roomier than it looks, and it handles very well. I haven't had a car this fun since college!

according to the NHTSA, the Yaris has very few (5) complaints.
Apparently there have been several complaints about the acceleration (being too 'touchy')
but you should take into account the safety factor.
the Yaris only gets 3 (rear) & 4 (front) stars for crash tests.
That is not surprising, nor it is unusual in this size car. The Insight & Mini-Cooper have similar ratings.
The only car in this class that received 5 star (front) & 4 star (rear) was the Aveo.

i offered the hatchback and that i'm particularly happy with it. i think of there is sufficient space interior, the mileage is great and the fee replaced into precise. Plus you gotta bear in strategies Toyota's music checklist. they are reliable. Yeah there is the line noise yet after a on the same time as you do no longer look to be conscious it lots, a minimum of i do no longer.
