My three dogs have been sick for a week now. They have a slight cold and a "very" dry cough. I was told that I can give them baby strength cold remedy for "humans." I made the mistake of bathing them last friday afternoon and I guess it was too cold. I made sure to blow dry them thoroughly but they still got sick. My 3 month old was scheduled to receive her vaccinations and de-worming shots this saturday. Will the vet still administer the shots if she is ill???

I would assume that he would still give them to her. My puppy almost died from parvo, he gave her a shot and I had to give her vitamins and chicken noodle soup every hour. Also had to give her a pill to keep her from vomiting. A couple days later she was back to her normal happy self. Today she had all of her shots, that was a week after she got better. You should take her to the vet as soon as you can.

most of the time a vet will not give shots to them when they are sick,, at least my vet will not give them shots when they are sick,, also you need to call a vet tonight cause it could be worse then a cold and see what they tell you what you can give them,,, cause alot of over the counter is not good to give a dog,,, here is a bad story that i have to share with you about giving a dog over the counter meds, I was told by someone that childrens tylenol cold and cough would get rid of their cold this was with my first dog,, so i went out and got some and gave her not even a half of a teaspoon and not long after i gave it to her she started foaming at the mouth and had a very bad reaction to it and so if i would have called a vet in the first place I would have saved alot of money at a vet and alot of pain and suffering for my dog,,, so now when i suspect that they are sick with anything I am on the phone with my vet and see if they want to see them or what i can do,, I hope this has helped and good luck with your dogs and when you do call the vet remember to tell her/him that all 3 dogs have a cold so all of them can get treated,, I hope you Have a Happy New Year, and take good care of your furry babies they are so precious

You better call the vet, I don't know about in your area, but here there has been a lot of pneumonia this past year. Don't give them any human remedies unless your vet tells you to, cold remedies don't cure colds anyway, they just hide the symptoms.
One suggestion, next time you bathe the dogs, walk them until they are dry, completely. Works in Colorado. I don't think your vet will give shots to a sick dog, mine won't!

I would take them to the vet and find out what should be done. They will tell you if they can get the shots or not, and also give you something for the colds. Then you will be on the safe side. You don't want to risk giving them something, that will hurt them more. Good luck with your babies. Better safe than sorry.

How much to feed depends on the breed of dog and the type of food you are feeding. As for food stay away from foods such as Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba, Pedigree, Purina..these are all low quality grain filled foods. Some good choices would be Chicken Soup for the puppy Lover's Soul, Merrick, Fromm 4 STAR, Innova, California Natural, Earthborn, Taste of the Wild, Orijen just to name a few. ***laws, a Great Dane does NOT only eat 1.5 cups of food per day I don't care how low energy it is or what food it is being fed. Anyone that feeds that little is seriously starving their dog. A 3 month old Dane puppy would be eating 3-4 cups per day and at 6 months old 5-6 cups per day of a good quality food. I feed taste of the Wild to my Danes..my 4 year old 180# adult eats 4 cups per day, my 140# 8 month old eats 6 cups per day******

I don't know if the puppy can still get her shot's but you could give them teaspoon fulls of Robitussin once a day for a couple of days that's what I gave my puppy when he was sick and it took it away or sometimes honey will help with the cough let them lick it off a spoon it taste's better than the meds.

if the vet thinks her immune system is compromised no they won't. you need to take all the dogs to the vet. many over the counter meds for human babies contain acetomenophin which is toxic to a dog. you should never give your dog any med that a vet has not told you to. would you not go to a dr after a week of a dry hacking cough? or find someway to take something that is safe for you? then why do your dogs have to go through it. take them to the vet please.

Generally they won't give any vaccines while they're fighting off an illness. I would call ahead before going to the appt,(if you go) they may want you to go in a separate area since she prob. is still contagious.
