My pooch is 18 years old, very healthy never had any medical problems, has the lives of a cat.. This pooch, had been hit by a car and tossed 6 feet.. Been kicked in the head by a horse seveal times, he was shot by the neighbor kid, who I dont know why, put a qtip in a beebee gun and shot him.. Qtip still in him, and cannot be removed because its consitered srapnal, and unsafe to remove, but does not cause him pain. Has days he is confused, and others where he is perfect.. but he was diagnosted with Congitive Dysfunction Syndrome... Like Alzheimers for humans.. There is a treatment, with Anipryl. I keep being told, let him get put to sleep. He is too old now... They say dog years he is a 126 years old. Does not have arthritis, only stiff when he wakes up after sleeping. He is a cocapoo/terrer mix... I don't think he is ready to die, has not gave me that look.... What do you think? What would you do?

I'd try the meds, if you can afford it.

But that's only going to give him a little more time. Just like people with Alzheimer's, he will forget who people are, and may get confused and frightened.

You'll have to weigh the risks and benefits and make what you think is the right decision for your dog. Good luck. He's trusting you to take care of him.

No honey, he's not ready to die - he's survived so many things I think this dog sounds like if he's ready to die, then he'll die on his own or let you know somehow, something silly like Alzheimer's for dogs shouldn't kill him especially if he isn't in any pain.

Get him the medication. And let him live out his life as long as he can as long as he is in no pain. It's not even rational to put him to sleep just because he's 18 years old sounds like your baby has a lot more life in him.

You know your dog better than we do. If hes still happy and has no other problems then there is no question he isnt ready to go. And I know that look your talking about. If you havent seen it, hes not ready yet. Congrats on taking extreme good care of your dog for 18 yrs, and hope you still have a couple more with him.

I would go with the meds. He sounds like he is still doing pretty good, so don't put him to sleep.

If he were my dog, I beleived he still had quality life to go and he needed meds, he'd get the meds.

Your dog will let you know when he is ready to go. This is between you and him, never mind what people tell you.
