How come when you make mixed drinks at home they never taste as good as when you get them when you're out somewhere. Say like margaritas. I got the best stuff they had at the store, and it doesn't taste as good. WHY? Thanks.

Pay attention to what brands the place you drink at uses. ALL brands taste different and best or most expensive is a matter of taste. ALSO the amount of EACH ingredient in each. A shot of booze in a drink or a double shot in a drink will taste altogether different. AND if they use fresh fruit as garnish will alter taste too.

It depends on the mix you get. You also need triple sec to make correct margaritas.

Too often, the mixes overrun the tequila - so you can tone them down w/a tid bit of 7-up. Make sure that you run the lime around your glass rim and also use margarita salt. Have a good blender...

It could be the lack of lounge "crowd" also that makes the drink not as tasteful...?

I think it's because we don't use the same ingredients or methods they do at the bar. For example, when you're making a drink at home do you pack the glass with smaller ice cubes or do you use a couple big cubes from you ice tray? Another possibility is that if you are using soda as a mix for Jack or Capt. Morgan or something you are probably getting the soda from a can or bottle and not a soda fountain. I think that one makes a world of difference.

Just graduated bartending school...and I still can't make the drinks taste as good at home as I can at a bar.

You don't have the a) soda fountain. b) utensils and c) the right ice cubes. etc.

Bartending is a profession these days. One can't get a bartender job without a bartender license showing that they attended bartender school and passed. People at home get the stuff in bottles called mixes and it just isn't the same as what bars offer. It's like comparing fresh home made lasagna with frozen lasagna, know what I mean?
