The idea would be to prevent splatters, however I heard that there is a danger of the plastic leaching onto the food. Does anyone have researched facts to say if this is true or false ?
We place food in plastic containers and microwave, but I'm referring to placing food in a corningware or dinner plate and covering with a plastic dome.

Also, since microphobiac posted i feel compelled to post a rebuttle: Microwaves are not machines that magically cause cancer, they excite water molecules by transmitting a radio frequency .(A high frequency therefore a short wavelenth, hence microwave). The shielding around the microwave prevents exposure. Yes if you sleep next to a running microwave, you will probably die, but the cancer will more likely be from your phobia's, not the micro-waves. Anyone with an internet connection can find that out quickly. This knowledge can be easily understood through education. It involves basic quantum physics, and the fundamentals of harmonics and vibration. You will understand it is no different than plucking a tuning fork, and tuning forks dont cause cancer, unfortunatly the radio waves from the tuning fork wont heat your mashed potatoes.

I received an email from a friend that is manager of a laboratory. She is actually an MT her self. The email was from the Mayo Clinic. It stated how it is very unsafe to use any type of plastic container or plastic wrap when microwaving food. The microwaving process breaks down the chemical composition of the plastic and it ends up in your food. These chemicals have been linked with cancer. So we try not to use any type of plastic in the microwave.

of course it is, the only reason actually it is used is to try to prevent the oven itself from getting as dirty.. Just make sure that you leave a little space, for breathing as not to turn the plastic in to SHRINK WRAP..It all has to do with the micro waves, only working directly on items that retain waters and fats. As far as the dome, that's were the slit that you will make comes from, to release the moisture, so it does not make a dome, again getting away from the water. fats...Good Luck . craftykatie808

It's ok as long as the plastic is microwavable.

Plastic is mutagenic, which is why we're diploid.

What I mean is; the risk is so low as to not be worth your time thinking about. Wear your seatbelt and eat more fiber.

I would suggest you use Rubbermaid or Tupperware. And don't lock the lid on. Everything should be cool.
