I just thought I would ask this question in a world and society of materialism and discontent?

For me being truly content is knowing the joy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Well, one sign would be a greater interest in what you DO rather than in what you HAVE.
Another would be waking up thinking of something besides some consumer crap you just GOTTA HAVE.
Another would be absorbing the idea of a certain baseline regard for others as a sensible social lubricant. Its becoming so rare, giving someone a break sometimes startles them. Try it on your crabby boss and see if it works. Its surprising how much easier some situations get if you simply refuse to pull on the other end of some foolish rope.
Another would be to get past the feeling that your religion needs to be used as a blunt object against anyone who doesn't think as you do. Its too much work! BAD acolyte, NO ENLIGHTENMENT!
Last, if you have a 1.8 ghz CPU that runs your main programs happily, don't ***** because Jimmy got a 2.3 ghz model. That's too entropic. Have a donut, go back to WarCraft and shuddup, eh? Somalian kids would be happy as hell to just dig in your garbage.
I hope this helps, but I'm not arrogant enough to assume it WILL. Good luck on your journey, seeker!

feeling good about it, whether you car broke down, whether you mother in law hates you, whether you children tell you they´re waiting for you to die to keep the house, whether someone tags you with unsoundly nouns, you name it. what used to pissed you off, is what now makes you laugh hard, without judging those back or wishing for different surroundings. life is beautiful , only if you laugh at it. BUT you should be able to take responsibilities by the horns and roll with the punches, get off the floor, dust off your pants and head on to what´s bothering you without whining or complaining., that and only that will bring a smile of contentment every day.

It depends on what kind of person you are. Someone can be completely deluded into believing there is a god and be content. Or they can see the truth that there is no god and be content. I guess it's "knowing" your place in the world, whether it's truth or not.

I must fit that description, although it does sometimes bug me I don't make any headway with bills. Literally I've been stuck at $1,800 for three years. Even though I make payments.

But I'm relatively content.

For me it means not feeling the need to compete or compare myself with others. Just being happy with who I am(Child of God), and able to see the good in everyone, despite the choices they make. Most importantly, being humble enough to share my views and opinions with others, without feeling the need for everyone to agree or accept them. That makes me content.

To be truly content you have to die to this world and everything in it, and then you are ready to live for God.
Coloss 3:3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

I have no clue. I'll just take the materials thank you. they make more sense. Religion just scares me with tales of fire and brimstone plus it' s too strict.
