I hope not! My sisters and I always fought and still do occasionally as adults (which is very sad). It would be nice to know some siblings out there grow up to become supportive, non judgemental friends.

It's not unusual for siblings to fight when they are young. As they grow older the fighting begins to slow down. Eventually it will stop. In my experience it is extremely rare for it not to stop. My children used to fight a lot when they were young. As they grew older they fought less & less. Today they are best buds. They are there for each other at any time for any reason. If you saw them today you would never believe that they ever fought. I'm sure that you will find that as they mature they will stop fighting. Can you get your friend to talk about why she is fighting with her sister. Sometimes just the act of talking about the reasons can make a person realize the the reasons for the fighting are trivial. It can open their eyes so to speak. Just talking about can change one's perspective . The important thing to remember when talking to her about it is not to take sides, just listen. It can work wonders. Also try to ask open ended questions like: why do you feel that way, or why do you think she does whatever annoys you.

I grew up in a family of 8 children. Fighting always. Name calling, the works. This was very disfunctional and hurtful. When I grew up I was determined to not have children that way. I did not allow them to name call or fight, but taught them to resolve their problems with understanding. If they couldn't do that, they would come to me for help. Now I know there is no child who doesn't fight because sibling rivalry IS normal. BUT the way they fight can be unhealthy. My children now are adults and they are raising their children the same way. Not all my siblings, however, had the same reaction. Their kids fight and have a lot of issues. I think because I was more sensitive to the pains of growing, that made me who I am.

Not always. I'm 16, my sister is 13. We do fight, but not insanely. We're actually very good friends. I tell her almost everything and I help her with things I have gone through in the past. Fighting is common, but is not always constant.

My brother and I rarely ever argued and NEVER actually fought. We are very loyal to each other to this day. The reason: We had a terrible home life and he and I stuck together against our abusive dad. How is your family dynamic? If you are in a stable family environment count your blessings. That gives you the latitude to quarrel with each other without it really being a matter of survival.

It is common for kids to fight when they are young. That is what they will remember and cherish when they get old. With age, fighting lessens and caring increases.

Constantly. I don't think my kids would be happy unless they were trying to prove the other ones wrong about something or making the 3 yr. old scream over something.
