My children both go in with me - a 3 y.o. girl and 6 y.o. boy. (Yes, 6 y.o. boy - and he will continue to go in with me!!)

I personally either bring them in if there is room and have my son turn around or if it's a small stall, make them stand outside the stall but they have to face the door so I can see their feet. One time I did let him stay out the door but he had to sing the alphabet song so I could hear him the whole time. (If you are a man, I'd absolutely bring them in the stall with you and have them turn around - especially if there are urinals.)

I sometimes play Simon says w/my youngest to keep hands off the dirty surroundings or if I just see her feet I say "wiggle you left foot, wiggle your right foot, etc.

And if it's #2 - I go home unless in a dire emergency.

I've NEVER had anyone question my child's presence. As he gets older, I do find myself searching for bathrooms that are more secluded/less used, but only if it is a choice.

Your child's safety is more important than someone's prudish sense of dignity.

I have 2 young children, a 4 yr old and a 7 mo old, i use the handicap washrooms n take em both w/ me, im a single mom n dont like shopping w/ friends or any1, im going to continue 2 take em in w/ me until they're old enough 2 understand NOT 2 talk 2 strangers. i just tell my 4 yr old to turn around n give me a lil privacy n i do the same 4 him. even if my 4 yr old son w8d right outside the stall, i feel he wouldnt be safe.
w/ shopping, i use 1 of those "leashes" 4 my pre-schooler while im pushing the stroller, if im just get'n few things. if im buying alot, like groceries, i get a cart then i put my baby in her car seat, my son on his" leash".
some ppl might look @ me strange for doing all of this but they dont understand how it is, its my childrens safety thats important, its our job to protect them so it doesnt matter what ppl think or say.
i think as long as u tell ur child why ur taking em w/ into the stall, n that u need a lil privacy, n if ur not doin anything inappropiate in front of them 2 see, then its ok until they get older.

How old is your child? If you are really that worried, you should take them into the stall with you (I use the handicap stall) Have them turn around where they're not facing you if you're uncomfortable. A lot of stores I go to have a family restroom, so I usually use them. OR you can have your child stand right outside your stall and have them talk to you the entire time to be sure they are still there.

Take your kids in the bathroom with you! If they are older, have them wait outside the bathroom stall (not outside the bathroom itself). If they are younger, then bring them into the stall with you. Some stores have a "family restroom" in them, and that makes things much easier :)

Don't leave them alone outside the door! It is far too dangerous in this day and age! I always bring them in with me. If they are a bit older, I simply ask them to turn around. If it is a restroom with several stalls, I have them wait outside my stall where I can see their feet, and I talk to them every so often. Don't let other ladies intimidate you if you have a boy with you that is too young to be on his own outside the door. He is your child, and you have a duty to protect him.

hi, i have 2 young children under the age of 3, they both come with me to the restrooms. but i remember when i used to babysit my younger brother when he was 7 / 8 years old i used to always take him to the restroom with me the other woman didnt like it but i didnt care, there are too many weirdos around these days to take the chance of leaving them outside. i think once they get to 8 - 8and1/2 they can stay out on there own but make sure they know the safety rules.

My son is 5 and I still bring him into the ladies washroom with me. I make him wait outside the stall. No one has ever said anything negative to me about it. I'm not comfortable letting him wait outside the washroom. If someone had a problem, they would just have to deal with it.

take them in with you... it's not worth the risk. I have even brought the whole cart in (no groceries of course) and went in the handicapped stall so that my baby would be safe and not have to touch anything in the nasty bathroom. when she gets older i suppose i will have her stand right outside the stall where i can see her feet if there is no room in the stall for her.

personally, i never leave my kids [age 1 & 3] with strangers or alone. therefore, i use the large handicap washroom that we can all fit into or a lot of places provide a 'family' facility with diaper change station and all that which usually has a lock on the outside door and a bathroom stall if you need a moment of privacy from the children....

well i would take the little ones with me and have the older ones depending on how old they are to come into the restroom or if the older ones are old enough they can stand outside the restroom with the little ones until you are finished. if you have to go #2 i would suggest going home as quick as possible.
