I'll preface this by saying that I don't practice in Michigan. In my jurisdiction, however, sensitive photographs are not released to family members without their request AND a warning regarding what the photographs depict. If you are concerned about the contents, by all means, contact the agency's records department and ask them exactly what the package contains. Do not accept any answer that does not alleviate your concerns. Identify yourself as a grieving family member and request to speak with someone who is familiar with the case.

I am so sorry for your loss , don't do this alone ! Is there another family member who could be with you when you open the report? Is there a trusted friend, a person from your church ? If you don't care to share this with anyone at this time why don't you set the report aside for a while till you are healed some. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Well first off Im sorry for your loss....

Every state and every department does things differently. What is actually released may vary. More than likely your packet will contain all reports from the event but it probably will not contain any photos.

I can't speak for Michigan, but expect photos of the scene where the suicide was discovered. If you are not able to handle it, ask a friend.

maybe it's just all paperwork and reports with no photos. if you're not sure, call and ask.
