don't stress over it. ticks are VERY common....at least around here (TX). if your very worried, wait a few days and take the dog to the vet to get tested. they'll reassure you that everything will be ok. i just got a 5 month old poodle. and the people we got him from lived in a very wooded area. she told me the day we picked him up she had found a tick and removed it. when i got him home, i found ANOTHER tick. i also found a spot on him that looked like was infected from another tick bite. (if the head is not completely removed, the wound can become infected) i pulled the scab off, removed the gunk out of it and bathed him in some antibacterial/antifungal shampoo and it looks like its healing fine. ANYWAY!!! lol. don't stress.....its VERY common. ive never had one dog in my life that didnt get at least one tick....
ALSO! keep advantage on your dog! that helps prevent fleas AND ticks!

You are not paranoid. Lyme is very real and increasing in every state. I have lyme disease my son also has it and two dogs in our neighborhood have it. I live in southern california at the beach. If the dog is bitten you can give it doxycycline at least 24 hours after the bite and it will be safe. You can also pick off the tick and examine it under a magnifying glass. on the internet you will find many sites that show deer ticks and which are the carriers. If the breeder cant tell you what type of tick it was you can go on the samento lyme site and give you dog the proper dosage of samento and it will be safe. Be educated as a mini needs a very small dose. Keep your dog out of the brush or if it is in a wooded area put a natural tick spray like port orford cedar on it before hiking. Do not under any circumstances get the lyme vaccine. In fact watch out for vaccines ingeneral especially since the bite is recent. Go on shirleys cafe on internet and study all about these subjects. get the dog but be a responsible owner and your daughter will be blessed

Too paranoid all dogs and cats get ticks and fleas. If it had been the type of tick that carries Lyme decease I'm sure the breeder would have said something. Very few ticks carry Lyme's disease. And like I said if she is out side any at all she is going to get fleas and ticks from time to time. And that is almost cut in stone so don't worry about one tick.

I also live in a yard full of trees in Texas and I use frontline plus. It works wonders, but our dogs definitely still get ticks from time to time. I don't think you need to be worried about lyme's disease, stop stressing! The tick is gone and you can buy some frontline plus to keep future ticks away. The vet suggests to use it year round.
PS Enjoy your puppy!

Hi,
No You are not being Paranoid, that is a likely thing to happen if it was a deer tick. If it was the common Wood Tick, probably not. It is the Deer Tick that carries the Lymes Disease.

certified vet tech here it takes more then one tick to spread the lyme and even so the tick would have to be on your dog for a while . not just one day . go ahead and take the dog to the vet and get all the vaccines that he needs plus the lyme shot .

Wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure she doesn't have anymore. I want to say the only ticks that carry lymes disease are Deer Ticks (could be wrong) Still the chances are slim.

No you are not paranoid..... but I wouldn't worry about it because I have had alot of dogs in my lifetime and all of them have gotton ticks on them before. We just take them off and none of my dogs have ever gotten lyme disease. Ticks are VERY common and most of the time they don't have lyme disease.

paranoid. if the breeder said she got it off then don't worry.
ticks can be a hazard but she probably knows how to remove them by now and the dog should be fine. you might want to check her really good for more and then give her a light flea dust - very light since she is so young.
later, your vet can recommend some good flea and tick treatments.
good luck with your doxie pup! I have 2 and they are so loveable
