A previous post asked why non-Christians answer Christian posts....
So, here was a question about what God means to you. In the question there was no actual reference to the Christian God, though it was implied.
If Christians wish to avoid responses from non-Christians, why don't they stop assuming that "God" simply means the Christian God. There are quite a few religions that have a "God", that don't happen to be Christian. Perhpas in recognizing that the Christian God is simply one of many in this world, properly identifying yourselves might just avoid some confusion.
Fair enough?

Neptune,
The reason for this is that I've received email and I've seen posts here complaining that non-Christians respond to Chrsitian questions. When a question asks something vague, like "What has God done for you" or whatever, Pagans and Christians alike may have a "God", and people oughtn't to think that "God" refers only to the Christian God.
The winter Solstice, in the Pagan tradition, for many thousands of years has been considered the time of the birth of the "God".
Christians aren't the only ones who have "God" as part of their religion.

First of all THANK YOU!
To explain further: I'm pagan.
You say "god", I say, "yeah, I believe in him...and all his brothers"
You say "Virgin Mary", I say "Bridget, and all her sisters."
I believe in a god so if there is a Q about 'god', It is in the 'religion' section, and there is no 'christian's only' posting, then I assume that all gods are included.
Mine, Christian's, Muslims, etc...

religion yes is a belief. does not just cover christians i agree. i believe there is only one God and i believe in the Bible. however i respect others beliefs as well.
i think that is not the problem. the problem that i think we are talking about more so is why are non believers or people of other beliefs bashing other beliefs. for instance if i say i love my Lord Jesus Christ and say that Jesus is God i will get many thumbs down from non believers as well as other christian beliefs out there who believe Jesus is the son of God but not God. if someone gives a good point regardless i give them a thumbs up or none at all. and at the same time try to address it when i answere something.

In a lot of religions, beliefs, theologies, the object of worship, the deity has a name, Allah, Yahweh, Elohim, etc. The Christian faith tends to simply use the term "God". By that reasoning, it's not that Christians are are denying the existence of other beliefs, but that the use of the term God as reference to the spiritual being is a christian trait. Talk to your non christian friends and find out what term or name or moniker they use to refer to their divine being?! The term
God" is not exclusive to Christianity, but it is one of the most recognized terms used by protestants and catholics alike.

It might help you to understand us better if you know some information about us. 1. Jesus is God. 2. He is The Creator. 3. It is He that said, "There is no other God but Me." 4. Jesus said,"I Am the Door to the sheepfold, if any one tries to get in by any other way, he is the same as a thief & a robber." So as you can see, Jesus' statements eliminates all other religions (other ways to get in the sheepfold), however His Love compells us to try to see you get into His Kingdom. This is unlike the worlds' religions IE: muslims are to eliminate any infidels, that is the rest of the world's religions because we don't see allah as a god. The other world religions don't try so much for converts as they just want to be on their own "spititual journey". They feel there are many roads to Heaven, but Jesus said there is only His Way, or Hell.

Quite true. Muslims for example, usually refer to God as "Allah". Other religions often have a name for their Deity.
If one simply says "God", which is what Christians call Him, we will naturally assume that you are referring to the Christian God.
If you're not, a little clarification is in order.

The only problem I can see here is you're assuming a tolerant attitude from an inherently intolerant group. Christians are way too jealous of their gods to share them with anyone else. But you make a worthy suggestion.

When a Christian says "God" that is because we believe that there is only one God. We believe this because the bible that we believe in tells us that there are no other gods and that we are to make no other gods or idols to worship. It's kind of like a conditioned response ya know? In our hearts we fully believe that there are no other gods except for the one true God that has created us and loves us. It's hard to accept that other people can't believe in Him or have some other type of god/idol they had rather worship.

When I hear God this or that I always must ask which one? This just reinforces the lack of knowledge most christians have. Or better yet when you ask a question the response is what they learned in Sunday school " Because the bible tells me so"

Fair enough.
But for the record, I welcome answers from all people, regardless of the religion they follow. The more we know the more understanding, tolerant, accepting, and loving we can be to one another.
