Why are people getting so upset over this it is part of the Christian creed he descended into hell before he ascended into heaven. Read the Nicean Creed.
For lost and found 1 Peter 3:18-19, 1 Peter 4:6, read the entire book of Jude it talks of him rescuing the fallen angels, Matthew 8:28 tell of the demons seeing him on earth and saying he would come to them.
Esphesian 4:8-10 clearly states:"Therefore, it says: "He ascended on high and took prisoners captive; he gave gifts to men." What does "he ascended" mean except that he also descended into the lower (regions) of the earth? The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. "
So lost and found want to bet again there is not chapter and verse.

Bobby: You are 100% correct in your presentation of your question. "Hell" is a mistranslation of the word "Hades", from the original Greek transcripts of the New Testament of the Bible. A correct rendition of the word "Hades" is "grave". Too bad, that people don't "do there homework" before concluding an important issue like "going to hell" is a sound Biblical doctrine. People , who are sinners, do not go to a "hell", period. If this would be the case, then, Satan has won more "souls" than God could ever of have. This makes God INFERIOR to Satan ... if it were the case. God [Jesus] is in the saving business !!!

Jesus was in Hell to get the Keys ? (to Heaven and Earth - I think) and to free souls that were trapped by Satan, that were meant to be in heaven.
I have no proof where I hear/read this, and I probably am wrong.
Oh, I am answering because Jesus was not sent to Hell to learn anything, and there was no mistake in translations through the years.

Yep, he went to hell......... Hell in Hebrew and Greek, the literal sense, is the grave. The more mythological/theatrical sense is the fiery image so many love to give us when they point out how depraved we are *sigh* The translation isn't as wrong (though it is wrong....) as the meaning of the translation is. And I think a lot of people really show what's in their heart when they say God is condemning people to a fiery torment for eternity. Appears to be more what they want.... rather than what any Loving, Just, Merciful God would want.

Yes, there is some variation in translation on that one, but the place Christ went to for the three days was Hades, called hell in the KJV, which was the place where all people who died, believers and unbelievers, went until Jesus died. When Jesus left there He took those who believed in HIm with Him to heaven.
Acts 2:31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY.
KJV 31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

Peter says ,Jesus went to Hades (Hell) to show the unbelievers he had conquered death and to lead the believers to heaven. Before the resurrection, people went to a place called Paradise or they went to Hades.Read in Luke about 'The rich man and Lazarus' it explains some.Paradise and Hades were separated by a gap and one could not cross to the other. Now when we die ,we go straight to heaven, the unbelievers still go to hades until Judgement Day,then they will be tossed into Hell(which was created for the Devil and his angels)Lake of fire is the real hell.

Jesus went to Hades....which was the place of "Paradise" and "Gehenna". Like in the story of Lazarus and the man he was unable to give a drop of water across the great chasm between them, Jesus went to the side of "Paradise". If you remember how it is written that Jesus told one of the men on the cross next to Jesus when He was crucified...."To you shall be with me in Paradise". Paradise was in Hades. It is also called "Abraham's Bosom". That is when Jesus went and told all those in Paradise, remaining there until Jesus did what He said He would do, namely redeem mankind...that is when Jesus told those in Paradise of His triumph at the cross and brought Paradise INTO Heaven itself. As far as my understanding, which could be wrong, I believe Gehenna is still in Hades awaiting the Great White Throne judgement. I hope that helps with your understanding.

I've heard all kinds of fractured interpretations of the Bible, but that's a new one on me. Where in the New Testament does it state that? I'd really like to know.

Jesus Christ was not sent to Hell as a learning experience or as a punishment, but to proclaim His victory as he "proclaimed to the spirits in prison."
There is no time listed -- it may be as little or as much as was necessary for Him to accompish His purpose.
