I plan on showing him, flyball, agility, herding and shutzhund.....plus he comes with CKC papers, 6 weeks free pet insurance, puppy starter kit, 28 month health guarentee, 6 weeks free training classes.

I don't think I would hae paid $1,573 (AUD) for a puppy but if you can afford it and you love him, you know you made the right decision.
Does he have a lifetime guarantee? As in, if he gets any hereditary diseases, will the breeders take him back and offer a replacement or your money back? Did they screen their dogs for all health problems? If so, you made a really nice deal.

If the papers are CKC, does that mean the money is in Canadian? As with most German Shepherds I've met nowadays, the important thing is the hips. Dysplasia runs rampant in that breed due to the hock walking look people like to breed for.

How were the hip OFA ratings of the dam and sire and each dog in the pedigree for 5 generations previously?

It's never too much if you can afford it, and love the dog. (Of course, I feel the same way about clothes... :)

But, that's more than I would have been willing to pay for a dog. Mine were all $45 or less from the shelter. (or in one case $0 from my neighbor)

It's all up to you though. Do you feel like that was too much?

EDIT: Well, with the pet insurance and the training classes, that makes it a much more reasonable price.

That is a lot of money for a dog, but if you love him then it's totally worth it. We had a German Shepherd as I was growing up and she was a spectacular dog...but she only cost around $500. That was a long time ago so I imagine prices have gone up, but that's still pretty pricey.

for a quality pup from titled sire and dam (or at least one titled and the other working on a championship), no that's not too much at all!

You should have adopted. You'd be surprised at what's instore at your local shelter. Pure breds and all.
