They sell shampoo at the store that gets rid of it. If you have long hair shampoo twice. You need to do it again after awhile to make sure they don't come back.
You need to wash all your bedding and clothes, and tell anyone who has shared clothing or brushes with you. Also spray any furniture you have sat on with lice killing spray.
Don't use any chemicals from the garage!

They sound like crabs and thaey are very contageous as well as lice. Lice are more oval snd you can't see as well. Get to a DR or call a pharmacist and ask. All clothing, bedding, furniture , everything that potentially has came in contact with her is to be cleaned, bleached, if possible. They are really bad in pubic hair which is where they usually start, to have them in the head is really bad. Get it taken care of...they are spread a lot by sexual contact.

Tell your friend to go to a doctor. Then check your own head/body for them. If this person has been to your home you need to clean and disinfect it. I highly doubt that 11 hours is enough time to get rid of crabs, lice, or whatever it is.

'Vinegar and water mixed in a 1 to 1 ratio is commonly applied to the head and allowed to soak for 30 to 60 minutes.' -http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/IG142
This is because the vinegar will loosen the nits (baby lice) glued to the base of the hair.
There are more tips at http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/IG142
