I have a 4 year old Sony HD rear projection TV. It has developed a slight shadow (ghost) to the right of most images. It seems to me that a callibration may be in order but I'm not sure if this is so and how to fix it without calling a technician. Any ideas?

First verify if you are able to perform a general convergence from the the user menu on the TV. (Check your manual)

Other than that you may then have to have a tech look at the unit.

The easiest solution is to remove the Sony emblem on the front of the set, replace the projection TV with an LCD or Plasma display, and put the emblem on the new TV.

Seriously, having been a TV tech for over 25 years, there is very little I can recommend for you to do. If you want to attempt cleaning the lenses (on top of the CRTs), go for it. But do so at your own risk. Like the old Fram oil filter commercial used to say.... "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later."

a lot of HD remotes have a function under the menu to converge the tv. If the picture isnt curverd inward at the edges, that might work. if it is bowed any, then you'll have to get somebody to replace the chips (if it is the convergence, i'd have to look at it).

maybe it is time to replace the light bulb. Most of them are rated about 1,000 hours. If you haven't replaced it in 4 years, maybe it is time now.
