Gels and hairspray have alcohol, which dries up the rest of the contents and gets flakey.
Try using a styling creme instead of a gel.

you don't have dandruff. It's just what happens with hairspray and gel in dark hair. I have brown hair and it used to happen to me also. I have found that the best thing to do is to use mousse in my hair when it is wet in place of gel, and then use a light styling wax for extra hold when your hair is dry. It works especially well to keep flyaways in check. It is also good because it doesn't make your hair crispy like hairspray. Garnier makes good wax if you don't want to spend a lot of money, but the best is made by bumble and bumble. Good luck!

It sounds like you're using too much hairspray, and it's causing your scalp to get overly dry. Also, you may not be removing all of the hairspray when you shampoo. Use a clarifying shampoo to remove any residue that might be left in your hair and scalp and go easy on the hairspray. Try switching to a leave-in conditioner, at least until you get rid of the problem.

Or it could be LICE! It COULD be dandruff. That happens to me! But, you shouldnt use gel. Gel is too flaky. So next time use a small amount of hairspray. Or do some styling cream and finish it off with some hair spray ( tressemme products) and mousse.

The gel you're using is white/clear right? I know, this happened to me before. Try using a gel that's brown or dark colored. For spray, I'm not sure what they have for people with dark hair, but there's probably something I just don't know about.

i get that too .. thoughout the day when i check up in the mirror, i see it and it`s so irritating ! i notice that if i use less hairspray, i don`t get little white specks. so maybe it`s because we`re both using a little to much hairspray.

that's because when your hairspray or gel dries up on your hair, any movement like brushing causes the dried up residue to start flaking..making it look quite icky. I know, i had before too. just look for gels or sprays that state no residue or flakes when brushing...

I have dark hair, and had the same problem with one brand, so I just tried another brand. I love the one for Brunettes, and it smells wonderful, you get what you pay for sometimes....
