If someone is discharged for failure to adapt to military life, they will not get a chance with that service or any other service in the future.

If someone has a good attitude but they are having trouble advancing with the rest of their training group they can be retained, just like being held back in school.

Just remember that hundreds of thousands of people have made it through Navy Boot camp in the past 200+ years.

Are you going to Great Lakes near Chicago or to San Diego?
Good Luck!

Yes, you can fail boot camp. It's a fact. But you question sounds a little like if you fail ONE test, they're going to boot you out and that's that. If that's your worry, then don't worry. You will have plenty of chances to get better. And yes, it may mean that you get put into a special fitness unit, but that doesn't mean you'll fail either. I hang out with a group of Navy moms online and I have heard many, many stories of Sailors being held back any where from two weeks to 5 months. All but one made it.

I've asked our son about this while looking for advice for other moms and one of the things he has said as that the runs tend to be the thing that's the hardest for most. And one of the things that he saw the ones that struggled do wrong the most was that they would start the run at 110% then die out. They've got nothing left at the end. Pace yourself. Find the guy in your division that you feel comfortable will make it, has a good steady pace and isn't going to leave you in the dust, and then don't let him get away from you. Let him "pull" you through the run. You'll figure out who he is during the daily runs. It's okay if you're not the fastest. That's not the point. Remember, it's not a race between you and the rest of the Recruits in your division, it's a race between you and the clock. The only thing you have to beat is the clock.

Good luck!

Yes, you can be discharged for not being able to complete basic training. You will be able to take the PT test multiple times during basic. I almost guarentee you you will pass it by the time you take the final test a week or so before graduation. If you do fail you are usually given another oppurtunity to retake it.

If you still fail it and graduation passes then you will either become a day one restart and have to take basic over again, or possibly discharged.

I wouldn't worry about it. Everything you do in basic is possible to accomplish, it is all a mind game to prepare you for what you could face. Just listen and soak up what you are taught and try not to be noticed by your NCO's.

If you want to pass and remain there, they will work with you. Obviously there would be a point where they would have to draw the line, but it takes a lot to not make it through bootcamp if you really want to and keep trying. Those who often don't make it give up. I don't know the Navy numbers, but in the Corps, my platoon in boot camp started with 67 people, and we graduated 46.

Keep your head down, try to stay anonymous, and just do what you are told, and you will do fine. And remember, when it all starts, and they are yelling constantly, you will never do anything right or fast enough in boot camp. Even if you complete something perfectly, they will still find some fault, and let you know about it. Basically, you will be worthless until graduation day.

The following link shows the navy's regulation regarding physical fitness. I've just retired from 20 years service in the Air Force and was able to pass the physical fitness test at 38. With a bit of work, you should be able to as well. The attached link will provide all of the information you'd ever require from the navy, it's their regulation, and they are required to follow it, as you are. Read it, in it's entirety, and be sure you have some knowledge about what is expected of you. In basic training, you will build gradually up to the fitness levels required. It may not be easy if you are overwieght and out of shape, so starting exercising now, at a minimum of 3 times per week. And keep challenging yourself to meet the goals of the program. Once you meet the minimum goals, then start working towards exceeding them. Meeting the minimum stardard is not the overall goal, exceeding them is.

They'll give you another chance to past if you fail Pt. I think they'll put you in a fitness training unit and you'll have a month to pass the pt test. if you don't you'll get discharged. But the best thing to do is to get in the best shape you can before you join. It sucks to see the people you went through boot camp with graduate while you have to go to fitness training. That's what a friend in the navy told me. But for the army I know that they test you before you go to boot camp, and if you fail your PT test you'll go to FTU (Fitness Training Unit) and you have 28 days to pass the PT test if you fail, you won't go to boot camp and you'll get discharged. From what I hard, they do PT up to 3 times a day. That 3 hours of working out! and the rest of the day they have you doing detail.

So the best thing to do is to not fail PT in the first place. Start training now....

Yes, it's possible to fail bootcamp. If you think you risk bombing out, ask your recruiter (or better yet, a MARINE recruiter) what to do to condition yourself for it.

OOH RAH
