You can try to get him to chew it by putting peanut butter on it or buying a bone that has a flavor he likes. Some dogs are picky and will only chew on certain ones. Take him to the pet store with you and see what bones he seems to be interested in. But all in all if he doesn't want to chew a bone there really isn't anything you can do about it. It's not good to force a dog to do something it doesn't want to do.

Why do you feel you need to make him chew a bone? Most dogs do like real beef bones and don't need urging. What kind of "bone" are you offering him? There are a lot of bones or bone shaped treats and most are a waste of money and my dogs didn't like. And I got a big pack here.

Maybe he is smarter than you and knows it isn't fresh. I buy real beef soup bones at grocery and now they sell vaccum wrapped bones there too-for dogs. Expensive though. Dogs have been chewing on real bones for centuries. But not all dogs may like to.
It should be his choice as long as he is on a good dog food for nutrition. If there is a petstore there that allow dogs then take him shopping to see what catches his nose.

If the dog does not want to chew a bone why would you want to make ehr do it?

Okay if the bone is a real bone and not a plastic Nylabone type bone you need tot ake your dog to the vet she may have tooth trouble.

But if a dog does not want to chew something just leave the poor dog alone!

You can't make your dog chew their bone. I have a dog and we got her a toy and a bone. The thing with her is that unless it's me she won't chew it in front of anyone. In fact, I haven't seen that bone for months.

the 1st factor you're able to do is take away each and every thing of value from the canines's attain. The canines is bored, and he or she discovered early on that chewing replaced right into a good thank you to unravel her boredom. the 2d factor you could -- and could!! -- do is purchase a crate it extremely is super adequate for her to stand up, turn around and lay down comfortably in, yet no longer lots else. you could shop a pair of bite toys like Kong or different puzzle/bite toys which will face up to heavy chewers in there for her. once you get domicile, in the present day enable her out, take her exterior to pass potty, and reward her with an hour or so of play time. make optimistic she has lots of appropriate toys to bite on, and whenever you hit upon her chewing on something irrelevant, substitute her interest to the toy. She'll get the image quickly adequate. yet in no way leave her unsupervised the place she gets to something effective, and in no way, ever blame her for chewing up something you have got necessary in case you do leave it interior of attain.

You just have to set rigorous productivity standards, and enforce them. Start with verbal warnings.
