I am, because I have developed a nasty, barking smoker's cough and I sound horrible. The whole house stinks of tobacco smoke, despite the air filters, and my kids hate my smoking. My cigarettes cost $9.00 a pack Canadian and I can no longer justify spending that kind of money. I am afraid that smoking will kill me and I will be remembered as someone who was too stupid or weak to stop doing something that was killing me. And it makes my bunny's fur more yellow than white. Disgusting.

It's also a point of pride for me. I hate being addicted to nicotine, and it bothers me that I've never been able to quit. Since I spent this year eliminating things from my life that were negatively affecting my self-esteem and health, smoking is the last thing that has to go. I know it won't be easy, it will be the hardest thing I've ever done because I am really, really addicted to it, but it has to be done precisely because of that.

I chose January 1 so that it will be easy to remember, and so that on New Year's Eve next year, if I'm strong enough, I will be celebrating a year of not smoking instead of dreading an impending quit.

Wish me luck!

Well some people may think that is easier to start or stop doing something when they set it as a new years goal. Even though they may not accomplish that goal they have the satisfaction to say "At least I tried"

I have never made a resolution. I think it's asinine. Although office co-workers insisted that I needed one this year (were they trying to tell me something?), I absolutely refuse. I also refuse to make plans. I know that sounds weird, but if you don't make plans, you can never be disappointed at how things turn out. Makes my life simpler.

Some people do, but only those that are serious about it. I think we should look inside to see how we can improve our hearts before we worry about quitting smoking though, not that that isn't important.
