Actually, you're supposed to give your info to the Selective Service System at 18. A draft is when the government needs warm bodies and cannon fodder, and apparently they don't seem to want to piss off the majority of the US by stealing their children away to have them die for corporate profits half a world away..

Its not 21, but 18 when men sign up for the Selected Services.

you miss on a number of points selective service requires all18 year old males register...Just like the mid 60's when I was inducted into the Army, again the DOD has reduced the qualifications to serve in the Armed Forces ...like the 60's you need not meet mandatory levels on the battery of aptitude/intelligence tests and it is likewise on the physical limitations..both have been expanded to allow previously unqualified applicants into the service..lastly don't forget the expanded age range to join as well prior upper age limit was either 34 or 35 recently that was changed to 42..gotta make those enlistment quotas somehow...then with a tremendous fanfare they announce they are EASILY meeting their enlistment goals...oh and now they are also switching around numbers so that the usually higher months are required to sign more recruits and in low months the quota is lessened thus relieving some pressure from the men and women recruiters... last don't forget the incredible enlistment bonus..as much as $40,000 and a 2 year gurantee to not serve in either Afghanistan or Iraq..unfortunately you need sign up for at least 3 years!

If you are called for the draft you will still be tested for fitness. The standards may be lower in a draft because there is a greater need for riflemen than in ordinary times.

Democrats Rangel and Hollings have been pushing hard to restart the Draft. I personally don't think it is time yet.

All males don't have to sign up for service. Just those that live in countries that have conscription. If you are against it then vote against it. Plenty of other countries get by without it and still have armies that meet their national needs (UK?)

Its actually 18 that you have to sign up...

Everyone drafted (should the draft be reinstated) would be required to attend a physical if their number is drawn.

It's because they men in office like the idea of there being more women in the country than men. (You'll notice that politicians are exempt from that law.)
