Hi. A Halal animal is an animal in which has been killed in the least painful way to the animal, and the quickest-- in a manner that will also not have a bad affect on the meat of the animal thereafter, or add any foreign chemicals to the meat.

More importantly- a blessing is done over the animal- that it is being slaughtered in the name of God, in the purpose to feed us and nourish us.

Halal and kashrut are two different things.

Halal meat can be from animals other than those in the porcine (pig) family, just as long as they are slaughtered according to Muslim law, including the saying of a specific prayer with the slaughter of each animal.

Kosher animals exlude anything in the same porcine family, but there are other exclusions as well. An animal that is potentially kosher is one that have a cloven foot and a split hoof and that chews it's cud. A cloven foot simply means a foot that is in more than one visible piece. A split hoof is exactly what is sounds like. An animal that chews it's cud is one with more than one stomach.

I addition, an animal that is potentially kosher is one that does not consume carrion (dead animals).

And as in the concept of halal, the animals must be slaughtered in a specific manner, with the recitation of a specific prayer as each one is slaughtered.

In both islam and judaism, animals are to be slaughted with a single, quick and deep stroke of a very sharp knife, across the throat, severing the throat, windpipe and major veins and arteries in one blow. The translations of the specific prayers are remarkably similar.

Since judaism bans the consumption of procine flesh, and since the wording of the prayers is similar, kosher meat can be substituted for halal meat. For some muslims, though, this is not considered to be a substitute and they will seek out only halal meat.

the only animal that forbidden (Haram) for us to eat is PORK, and animals that are considered carnivors and animals that have dies from disease or natural causes.. All others are permissable but the name of Allah must be envoked at the time of the slaughter. You say Allahu Akbar (God is great) before the slaughter and it is Halal to eat

I'll tell you what has been forbidden...

(5:3)
Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah. that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear Me. This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
