The way I understand it, it is pronounced (Mah-saa-mee)
I am unsure of the spelling though I may have it wrong. I beleive it is "Masami". It is the name of my female cat. She was given to me by a family who hosted a Japanese exchange student who is female who's name is Masami. Somewhere, I have my cat's vet papers with the correct spelling on it... That is all I have to work with. Hope you can help narrow it down. Thank you

The name you're looking for could be either "Masame" which is rare or, much more likely, "Masami". Unfortunately, the meaning of Japanese names depends on the kanji (Chinese characters) used to write them. Here are some possibilities for both, although there are many many more for "Masami":

1) Masami (all of these can be read "Masami")
正実 "Just + fruit" (as in "to bear fruit")
惟美 "Considerate beauty"
真己 "True self" or "Truth + Snake" (eg someone born in the year of the Snake)
昌美 "Prosperous beauty"
雅美 "Gracious beauty" ("Masami Hisamoto", nicknamed "Machami", the famous Japanese "Talent" has these characters.)
....

2) Masame
正芽 "Just, righteous + bud" (of a plant)
真女 "True girl (woman)"
雅女 "Gracious girl (woman)"

PS:
Looks like it's "Masami" after all, eh? If you don't know the kanji characters, why don't you just give the cat some new ones? I'm beginning to think the one with "snake" isn't so good now! You could put together these:
MASA
雅 Gracious
昌 Prosperous
真 True
with these:
MI
見 Looks
未 Future
美 Beauty

Eg:
雅美 Gracious beauty
昌未 Prosperous future

Do you mean: Masami (pronounced Mah-saw-mee)

Masami - 正実

It means something like "righteous truth".

It is both a girl and a boy name.

It's all up to you which kanjis be chosen. I like 雅美, which is a popular girl's name used in Japan. The above person wrote its meaning.

Both of the above answers are correct... If you do not have the name written in kanji, then there is no way to determine which one yours means... sorry.
